My Runic System

Ruin hunters are people who delve into the deeps, people who explore forbidden magic and ancient artifacts that had been left behind after the great calamity over 900 years ago. The strange phenomenon caused the world of Elvendoria as we know it to change and grow along side us, creating domains out of thin air that would be deemed as hazardous to villagers. My whole life I wanted to be like a certain Ruin hunter, the one who saved everyone from the Calamity all those years ago, Gerard. A hero who pointed his swords to the heavens as he finally faced off against the demon king. "'My body may be battered and broken! It may be filled with scars from battle, but I wear them with pride knowing that no matter what happens I'll never have a scar on my back! For I always face my foes!" His words of bravery echoed into the future, and a young elf took the mantles of his soul and his courage, a kid that would sprint head first into the future, shouting his god given name to the heavens as soon to be known, Kaluar, the tinkerer of legends. This is my story, on how I became a Ruin hunter.

Joining the academy

'Huh?! You actually want to join Prospera academy?!' The Director exclaimed, his voice riddled with surprise and disbelief. The boy stood before him, a confident look in his eyes and a grin that speaks his answers.

'May I ask what changed your mind.' He pondered, Kaluar smiled at his question before giving him the answer he so craved.

'I want to learn more about magic, and tinkering, and Mana Alchemy, it's all so fascinating i couldn't pass it up!' He looked at Celi for her approval, a small smile peaking out on her face before nodding.

'Besides, this'll help me a lot on my adventures I'm sure of it. I want to be as strong as possible, so i don't lose anyone who travels with me!' His hand clutched into a fist around his shirt as if he was trying to cup his heart. His gaze softened as he looked down at his hand with the sound of sincerity in his voice.

'If i don't, I wont be able to call myself a ruin hunter, or be able to compare myself to Gerard, or any of his fateful companions for that matter.' The Director smiles at the boy's words, his hand gliding across his pristine wooden table, fingers landing on a page which lied there with his information, sliding the paper his way.

'Oh and I think I should give you this back.' He smiled handing him the rune he worked so hard to bring here.

'You have a job to do after all.' Kaluar smiled at his generosity, taking the paper and rune into his bag, setting off on his way with a burst of speed, his eyes highlighted with joy and excitement.

The halls seemed more colorful to him, the once unimpressive halls turned into one lined with gold, its glow a stark contrast to the white walls, marble tiles lining the floors in which his feet echoed. His soft joyous pants echoing down it's path. His eyes closed as he take it all in, all that happened and what's about to happen, turning around the corner he bumped into a lad in his burst of joy both of them toppling to their behinds.

'o-ow!' The boy grunted, rubbing his head as he fell back, looking at Kaluar with a hint of annoyance before his eyes widened from realizing.

'Are you-' He murmured. Noticing his fiery red hair and cyan eyes.

'You're the new kid right?' He pondered, getting up from the ground and stretching his arm out towards our hero. Kaluar hesitantly looked up and saw a boy with gray hair and golden yellow eyes that shimmered against the sun's rays that peaked through the windows.

His hands bruised and battered but still held out to his aid.

'Yeah, Kaluar Fairglen. You?' he pondered, introducing himself with a smile.

'Mirai, Mirai Vidur.' He introduced, his hand on his chest and his voice filled with sincerity. Kaluar's eyes widened at the name, soon connecting the dots together as he stood before the boy.

'Oh you ordered a rune didn't you?!' He exclaimed, scurrying through his bag to find the rune he hidden away for safe keeping, Mirai standing right next to him to get a quick peak inside.

'You have it?' He pondered subconsciously, his eyes wandering to the items he would push aside, unfinished project and trinkets that would give a brief glow once exposed to the outside. The fingers of our hero finally wrapping around the book that took him so long to find.

'Interesting stuff, are you a ruin hunter?' He asked, looking up at him with genuine curiosity.

'Yeah, though i have no team yet i'll get there soon!' Our hero responded, his eyes never leaving the bag he searched through. The boy grinned at his words, stepping back with a smile.

'Believe it or not i'm a ruin hunter myself.' He announced, his voice raised ever so slightly, showcasing his booming confidence. 'C rank, soon to be team Mosugu Saiko!'

'Mosugu Saiko? that's a rather strange name.' Celi pointed out, her head tilted to the side, confused whether the boy was serious or not.

'That name is so cool!' Kaluar negated her initial comment, looking at Mirai with stary eyes.

'Of course! It means soon to be the best! So obviously it'll have the best name.' He smiled, completely ignoring Celi's statement earlier.

'That's impossible-' the young elf murmured, grabbing the book from his bag and giving it to the boy.

'How so?' Mirai pondered, his face showed the slight depiction of offense. Kaluar grinned at his question, pointing to himself with his thumb, a toothy smile flashed towards his soon to be rival.

'That's because i'm going to be the best!' He announced.

'Yeah!' Celi cheered from his shoulder her hands stretched out wide as she backed up her friend.

'Yeah I'd like to see you try!' He responds, flashing a challenging smile of his own. Celi watched as the two boys go back and forth, she couldn't help but chuckle at their banter, her eyes softened with joy.

'I bet you don't even have a team name yet.' Mirai teased, his index finger poking the boy's forehead.

'yes i do! It's Rekka!' Kaluar responded, slapping his hand away.

Mirai shook his head, a smile still plastered on his face, a smile he couldn't get rid of no matter what he did.

"Well, I'll be seeing you at the academy then? It would be great if we were to become adventure buddies, don't you think?"

Kaluar smiled, nodding at Mirai's suggestion.

"Yeah! I can't wait."
