One Valid Reason

Adonis's POV

I can't stop myself from smiling after I sent Maya home, I never feel this excited and happy to be with a girl before. The moment I get back into my grandpa's mansion I saw Ariana in the living room, and she is still writing in her journal and she raised her head when she looked at me striding towards her, and she gives me a warm smile. I love my twin sister because we are consistently close with each other since we were young; we are not like other siblings who constantly quarrel even though our parents are ever busy, and they showered us with material things to fill in their hectic schedules. It spoils none of us.

We both understand our dad and mom, that is why we depend on each other, and it made us inseparable, and I always share my innermost thoughts with Ariana.

"Wow! You show so happy and judging by your expression, I can tell you had an incredible day." She said, and I sat beside her.

"Of course, this is one of the finest days of my existence." I declared.

"Wow! Maybe you can share it with me, so I can judge if what happened to you today will be considered one of the best days of your life, we grew up together, and I know almost everything about you." She responded while looking up at me.

"I sent Maya home from the Hernandez Hacienda." I answered her and I can see her eyes widened and Ariana's face turned red, and I can tell my sister is angry with me.

"Adonis, I love you, but you know Maya is my best friend and I also care for her. I am asking you to, please stop bothering her and stay away from her. Why do you enjoy hurting her feelings? For how many years I tried to ignore all the things you have done to her because I know Maya is a fighter, but she had enough of your pranks, and she is only human Adonis." She said, and I can tell she is trying to control herself, and I can't blame my twin to feel this way.

Ariana witnessed how we quarreled with each other, and I realize there are many times I have seen Maya cried, but she tried her finest to keep it a secret from my sister, and she always cries alone when she thought no one was watching her. I face Ari and peered at her in the face, I need to tell her everything.

"Ari, looked, I realize I had been a jerk towards your best friend, but this time I am sincere, Ariana. I want to know Maya, you have to relax and allow me to know her." I said, and she is looking at me for a long moment and I felt my sister is sizing me up.

"Are you serious, Adonis?" She asked, and I perceive she is still doubtful about my intentions towards Maya.

"Yes, one hundred percent." I replied without breaking eye contact with Ari.

"You know me, Ari, I am not a bad person, I just don't realize why I did all those things to Maya. It may be too late, but I hope I can still reach her heart." I added.

"Can you give me one valid reason why I will allow you to get close with Maya, how can you convince me this is not part of your stupid games, and you are not making another bet with Jake?" She asked, and I felt my sister is sensible, and I am certain I can win her heart, but it seems she is so tenacious to protect her best friend.

"I am falling for your best friend, Ariana, I know it may sound crazy, but it made me realized the reason why I am always irritated every time I am near her because of the feelings I have for her, I tried to cover it up with my snarky remarks, and instead of facing it I try to mask it with anger and hatred." I confessed, and I saw her face softened.

"Wow! Adonis, I realize you won't lie to me with that kind of thing, and I can always determine if you are not telling the truth. I was right in my suspicion that you feel something deeper for Maya because, you are a good person, Adonis." She responded with a smile.

"Does it mean you are now giving me permission to court her?" I asked.

"Of course, I will be the happiest person in this world if you will become Maya's boyfriend, but it would be a challenge on your part how you are going to convince her to this point. I will not help you, brother, you have to do it alone. You need to win her heart in your ways since you ruined your chance to be with her a long time ago for mistreating her, you were such a jerk." She answered and gazed at me.

"I know, but can you at least support me if it will get harder on my part to convey my feelings for her, and make Maya believe that I am serious about her." I asked and glanced at her with puppy-dog eyes.

"I know Maya likes you since we were younger, but lately, I can tell she wants to avoid you. But I perceive you just need to show it to her, you want her. I know Maya has a big heart, and she always believes in second chances, but in your case, she needs to open her heart again, for we have to deal with it, Adonis, you made her like a fool for how many times. Sometimes your pranks were below the built, and I can't blame her if she will try to push you away." Ariana spoke and this time I can see her concern on her lovely face.

"But be patient with her, for you, have to learn from your mistakes the hard way. I just hope she didn't give a chance to any of the rich guys in San Antonio, you know it, Adonis, most of the handsome boys within the circle are crazy about her. It is about time you have to admit it to yourself that Maya is exquisite." She added, and I can feel a sudden pang in my chest because I don't want her to be with someone else other than me.

"Yeah, I know, Maya is beyond beautiful, and every time I told you she was not beautiful, I always mean the opposite because I am so scared to acknowledge it, but you have to help me, Ariana, I am begging you." I pleaded and she smiles.

"Wow! You are into her, I haven't seen this outward expression of yours in a long while ago, you only look like this if you badly needed something to be in your possession, and I could say this is the worst facial expression I have looked at in you so far. You never beg, Adonis. Don't worry, I am your twin sister and I don't want you to suffer, just inform me if you need some help." She declared, and I felt so glad that Ariana will support me. I take her into my arms and hugged her tightly.

"Thank you so much, Ari. It means a lot to me." I said, and I released her from my embrace and I can tell she is so thrilled about the idea of Maya and me together. Out of the corner of my eye, I saw one maid striding towards us.

"Young Master Adonis and Young Lady Ariana, dinner is served and your grandfather is waiting for both of you in the feasting hall." She stated.

"Thank you, Lina." We both replied in unison, and we got up from the sofa and walked to the dining room. The moment our grandfather saw us coming to the table, he grins at us, and we go near him and kissed me on his cheeks.

"Good evening! Grandpa." I said, and I heard my twin sister muttered the same words and her sweet voice made our grandfather smile even more.

"How are you, Adonis and Arian? Are you having fun?" He asked us, and I am so proud of my grandpa, at his age, he still looked so strong and youthful. And he always looks relaxed, that is why I admire him and I want to be like him someday. He loved his staff, primarily the farmhands, and he constantly sought for them. I know he is a busy man, but he finds time to be with us even when we were kids. He used to horseback ride with us, and we regularly had a picnic on the hills.

"Yes, grandpa, you know how we love it here, we always want to be with you, and of course, we love San Antonio, that is why we always choose this place no matter how our mom insisted us to travel abroad or to stick around at our house in the city, do you realize the reason, grandpa?" Ariana asked our granddad.

"Why is that, Ariana?" He inquired.

"Because you are here." Ariana said honestly, and I will answer the same thing if someone will ask me why we always want to hang here.

"Oh, that is so sweet of you, Ari, what do you want this time?" He urged and aside from being a cool grandfather, he is also very generous, most of my cars and Ariana's were a present from him, even my latest convertible was an offer from him, that is why my mother will say nothing about it for she can never dictate our grandfather. My grandpa showered us with material things because we are his only grandchildren, but he values family time together that is why we are so close to him.

"Grandpa, I am just telling the truth and I don't want to ask anything." Ariana replied, and she looks so cute pouting her lips, and it made him chuckle, and I can't help myself but smile, and as I was smiling the lovely face of Maya popped in my head and I can now say I am crazy about Maya Alva.
