Finn
"Nevaeh, did you take your medicine?" She hesitated to answer me, her behavior had become common to the way her syndrome manifested itself.
"No, I haven't took them since days ago." I look at her disappointed and explain. "Nevaeh, you need to take your meds, Hugo doesn't need to know you're on such meds." "Why shouldn't he know?"
"Because your syndrome is not normal."
Klüver-Bucy syndrome (KBS) is a neuropsychiatric disorder caused by lesions affecting the bilateral temporal lobes, particularly the hippocampus and amygdala. It can manifest itself through Hyperality (a tendency or compulsion to examine objects with the mouth)
Hypermetamorphosis (excessive attention to visual stimuli with a tendency to reach for every such stimulus regardless of history or reward value) Hypersexuality
Bulimia
Calm
Visual agnosia and Amnesia.
Nevaeh got up to go find her medicine box. She comes back with it and starts taking them.
Pills to keep this syndrome under control are Antidepressants, mood stabilizers, or antipsychotic medications to manage behavioral problems. Anticonvulsant pills to manage seizures.
Nevaeh
After I take my pills Finn leaves, I hope he didn't realize I actually put them under the tongue. I approach the trash can and spit out everything in my mouth, I hate the taste of pills, why do I have to take them, I can live well without these drugs. I'm really starting to hallucinate and hypersexuality has become a bit of a problem for Hugo but I'll be able to keep them under control on my own.
Hugo
I was starting to spend more time with Nevaeh, I felt that I had made a strong connection and I really wanted to stay with her. Today we were supposed to go out on a date, again to a restaurant, we got there, she was waiting for me in a fitted red dress. We go in and sit down at the table, nothing bothers us today. I just notice that she looked disoriented, not a minute after she looked like that, her eyes move in all directions and her hands and feet twitch. She falls off her chair and continues to twitch. I panic and shout.
"Is there a doctor here?"
A woman approaches and examines her. "She's having a seizure!" She takes out the phone and calls 911. In a few minutes we arrive at the hospital, they put her in a room.
Finn
I was out in town with Khloe and Klara, I had to relax, my phone rang, it was Hugo, wasn't he on a date with Nevaeh?
"Did something happen?"
"I'm in the hospital, Nevaeh had a seizure." I was a little shocked, Weren't the drugs supposed to control her seizures, didn't they work? They don't have an effect or maybe she put them under the tongue? I explain to the girls what happened and take a taxi to the hospital. I arrive and see that Hugo is talking to a nurse. He looked stressed.
The nurse asked him
"Is she suffering from something?"
I intervene and say.
"Klüver-Bucy syndrome." The nurse walks back into the room.
"I didn't know she had that syndrome, I thought she was perfectly healthy."
"This syndrome appeared after we had a car accident, she was 12 years old, she hit his head, suffered damage to the amygdala and hippocampus and this is where the syndrome came from. I told her to take her pills but she doesn't want to listen to me, she doesn't like to take them."
"I've heard of this syndrome before. She didn't really show signs of the syndrome. Yes, she was analyzing things with her mouth, but I didn't think it meant anything." "Initially I didn't want you to find out right now, I know it's wrong but I thought you were going to abandon her, I couldn't bear to see her abandoned again."
"Finn, I'm not leaving her, I don't mind her syndrome, I love her anyway."
The nurse leaves the salon.
"I talked to the doctor and we agree to discharge her, Klüver-Bucy syndrome manifests itself through seizures, have you tried to give her any treatment yet?"
"I tried, but she refuses to take them."
"The doctor wrote this referral, she must go to a psychiatrist and a neurologist, she must see how her illness has progressed. It can have serious consequences if she does not take her treatment. She can even kill someone if the hallucinations go too far. I don't want to scare you, but I have to let you know. Is one of you related to her?"
"Yes" I answer while the nurse hands me the discharge papers, I sign them and enter the salon where Nevaeh was. She had woken up, it was clear that she had realized that she was wrong.
She had the pills in her hand, she had to take them but she didn't want to.
"Nevaeh, please take them."
"If I don't want to, what happens? You can't force me, neither you nor that arrogant doctor. I don't want to!"
"Nevaeh take them." I tell her calmly, in the end she takes them and I check under her tongue, this time she really took them.
Hugo
Finding out that Nevaeh has this syndrome made me think a little, should I continue the relationship? I love her but I'm afraid that if she doesn't take her treatment it won't be good for any of us.
Can this relationship work?
