Music recommendation : Time traveller by M.I.A
I looked away immediately and turn to leave when I hear someone yell my name. It's Matty. He looked different.
'Oi, stranger. Like the hair? My sister did it for me.' He approached me with a smile plastered on his face.
'Her work's neat. I could use a braid right now.' I sigh.
'Well, anytime you want one. Just tell me.' His voice becomes high pitched. I knew what he was doing. 'Did I get the accent?'
'Barely.' I laugh.
'Well, I'll wing it next time.' He stood next to me. When he found me staring, he followed my line of sight. 'Levi Wright.'
Unconciously, my finger flew to my lips and I hear a gasp beside me.
'No.' Matty pulls me to a corner. 'You kissed Levi? Levi kissed you!' Suddenly, he nailed the English accent and I give him a thumbs-up for it but he misinterprete it as a YES.
'Tell me how it happened and leave nothing out.' We sit by the kitchen area.
I exhale softly then start. 'It began when my family just moved here….
'Hold that thought.' Matty hops off the seat and dash to one of the cupboards. He returned with a bag of cheese balls.
'What's that for?' I asked, confused.
He popped one ball into his mouth. 'You see; snacks taste best while gossiping. Do go on.'
I smiled and spilled the truth. Everything that happened between me and Levi. Every effing thing.
Matty rambled on. 'Mercy me, the scandal! It's like forbidden love….like Romeo and Juliet but with smut, more banter and less tragedy.'
I palm my face. 'Jesus Christ.'
Matty continued. 'Well, you can't deny that you're not attracted to this guy. I mean, come on, the sexual tension is palpable.'
'Jesus. Someone could hear you.' I look around.
'Relax. No one did.' Matty pats my hand resting on the counter.
'I'm not attracted to Levi.' I say defensively.
Matty shook his head. 'You're not a good liar.'
'I'm saying the truth.' I whispered when I saw two adults walk by.
Matty scoffs. 'Dude, you've been kissed three times. My lips haven't touched a woman's in 10 years. You're lucky.'
I shake my head. 'You don't understand.'
'Of course, I won't. I'm still a virgin. I'll probably die one.' Matty munch on some cheese balls and I dig my hand into the bag and we chew silently, watching the others celebrating.
'Hey, Char! Matty!' Scottie calls loudly from the stairs. It came out as a muffled yell due to the K-pop music blowing from the speakers.
'Hi.' I wave at him and he rush down to meet me.
'Hey.' Strangely, he pulls me into a hug.
'You okay?' I ask as we both pulled away. He reeked of bevvy. 'Are you drunk?'
'Shhh' He put his fingers to my lips and I grew quiet. Lacing my fingers with his, we flew upstairs. Yep. I flew because I couldn't feel my feet on the floor. Finally, we arrived a door. Scott held the door knob and pulled it open. And it was like we were in another world. The room was like a canvas of black and white. Black blotches were sprinkled on the white painted walls on the left side. The right side had a stripped design. The room was spacious. A black guitar hung on the wall along with several other paintings. The furniture were mainly black and white. There was a black bedspread on a huge bed. That didn't get my attention. The window did. The curtain behind the window was satiny white and I remember it. It's Levi's. This room is Levi's!
I could barely hear myself. It was as though white noise enveloped the air but it was just everyone talking loudly. The room was literally an eruption of pandemonium.
I waved at Adolph who looked like a DJ in his black T-shirt over black jeans ripped at the knees. His attire was identical to Gracie's but the difference was she had a denim jacket wrapped around her stomach. I'm guessing it's to cover her navel. The crowd quieted down and he turns to me. 'So glad you could join us, Melbourne.'
'Sure.' I give a small smile. After greeting a few of my classmates, I settle by the window and realise the sky was getting dark. Just when did I get here that it's getting late all of a sudden.
Matty joined me. 'Whatcha thinking?'
'I don't know. I wanna go home.' I face him this time.
'Well, if you wanna go. Let's.' He's about to stand up when Scott wrap his arm over his shoulder and pull him away.
Great. Scottie stole my companion. Now, I just need to find another one. I turn my gaze to where Lin sat with the Alan Queens. I wonder what she was doing here but it was not my place to ask. It's not my house nor is it my birthday party. Stacy's hand was on her lap the whole time, Margo laughed at every little thing she said which I'm sure was not funny and Adira leaned unto her like she was so pillow. So much for Queens.
'Yo, where's Levi?' I hear Gracie ask.
'He's on his way.' Scottie who was mixing the drinks replied from his table. I wonder what concotion he was making.
The opening door announced his arrival. He dressed the way he did the first time we met - A black Tee over coffee coloured cargo pants. His dark glossy hair was tousled and a black facemask hid his gorgeous looks but you could see his ocean eyes and the intensity it released with a simple stare.
'Here comes the man of the hour!' Adolph whooped from his makeshift DJ table and everyone applauded him. Why did they do that? Am I missing something?
'You look so clueless, child.' Josie walks up to me and hands me a drink. Woah. She was invited. Great.
I stare at the red liquid, wondering whatever was mixed to get this.
She took it from me and dunked it down in one swallow. 'There. You're safe now.'
'You okay?' She asked.
'Of course.' I smile, trying to mean it.
'Don't go all British on me. I can tell when someone is out of place. I've been there.' She gives a small smile and pats my shoulder.
The music suddenly comes to an abrupt end, leaving me clueless on what's about to happen.
'We're gonna play spin the bottle.' Josie says.
'What?' Her statement leaves me more confused.
'It's just like truth or dare but with the dare only. Turns are decided by spinning an empty bottle.' She explained.
'Oh.' I pretend as though I undertood and watch Matty and the rest rearrange the furnutures frim their original place to the bedside, leaving an incredible space in the centre of the room. Now, I'm looking at it, Levi's got quite a big room so he's not bad off.
11 of us take a seat on the floor. I joined them. Unfortunately.
Levi, who sat at the head, uncapped a bottle of soda and took a sip then he passed it to Adira who sat next to him. She does the same thing.
'What the hell are they doing?' I whisper to Josie.
'We're all drinking from the same bottle.' She whispered back.
I scrunched my nose. 'What if I get someone's germs?'
'You'll be fine. Just think of it as the bibilical Lord's Supper. Everyone did drink and pass to his brother.' She made a good point.
It got to my turn and I take the bottle shyly. Pressing it to my lips, I close my eyes and let the bubbly liquid wash down my throat. A cough escape my lips as I passed it unto Josie who was the last person.
She emptied the bottle and smiled. 'Now, who's ready for some spin.'
I'm amazed at her behaviour. She's changed. Kinda reminds me of Sophie and her wild nature.
I hear several "whoops" as she spinned the bottle. I don't know why but I held my breath. This just feel like casting lot. I wonder how Jonah felt when his friends casted a lot and it fell on him.
'We have a winner!' Josie leans backward, laughing to her heart's content.
'Who did it fall on?' I ask, not understanding what I'm watching.
'Stacy.' Josie smiled.
Levi sat up. 'Stacy, go kiss Lin. On the lips.'
Everyone whooped.
'Woah. Isn't that a bit rough?' I ask.
'Nope. The wench deserves this.' Josie held a smirk on her lips. 'It's the devil beating his wife.'
