"A good start," Aurelius said, in a cheerful mood.
There is an art to starting a conversation, but unfortunately, Aurelius lacks that understanding.
In his previous life, he spent most of his time confined to a hospital bed. He was uninteresting and easily overlooked.
But now, he must learn to communicate to accomplish his objectives.
Some of his plans require Nagini's active cooperation.
He intentionally displayed his differences to arouse Nagini's suspicion and learn more about her.
This will create an opportunity for their next meeting.
Aurelius did not rush to prepare for their next conversation. He wanted to give Nagini time to react.
"Hey, man, that gorgeous snake is not one to be messed with," Carlos teased, looking at Aurelius.
"She used to be more manageable in the first two years. But now, if something goes wrong, it could become a bigger issue," Carlos replied, smiling.
"I've heard of the blood-cursed and I'm quite curious," he continued.
"That's normal. You've just graduated at your age, so it's natural to be curious about everything. If you had been in the group for three to five years, you wouldn't be like this," Carlos said, appearing as though he had experienced it before. He wanted to hug Aurelius's shoulder, but his height only allowed him to pat his back.
"Oh? Have you encountered many blood-cursed?" Aurelius asked nonchalantly.
"Well... dozens of them, quite a large family. In Egypt, they manage a zoo - you know what a zoo is, right? It's a Muggle thing where animals are confined in iron cages for people to visit."
"Hmm - sounds somewhat similar to our circus?" Aurelius feigned innocence.
"Ha, it's different. The circus is a performance," Carlos explained happily. "It's more like an animal enclosure for people to observe."
"But that family is very much like our group since all the animals there are their grandparents, father, mother, aunt." Carlos laughed as he spoke.
Aurelius couldn't help but furrow his brow.
Is this... amusing?
A blood curse is a curse that can be inherited through blood. It is typically passed down through either the paternal or maternal line.
In other words, both males and females can be afflicted by blood curses. It is rare for children of both genders to have blood curses.
Nagini has inherited the curse from her mother's side. Astoria Greengrass also has a blood curse.
But please be careful!
Many people mistakenly believe that Astoria is also a Maledictus, but she is not.
The blood curse is a broad concept that encompasses various types.
Maledictus is just one type of blood curse. Not all blood curses transform the afflicted into beasts. However, because they are both blood curses, they share some similarities.
For example, let's consider the gender inheritance mentioned earlier. If it is a maternal blood curse, then the curse would not affect the boys in the family. Carlos mentioned that the blood-cursed family he saw in Egypt was not divided by gender. The most unbelievable thing is the combination of "Mom, Dad," and "Grandpa and Grandma." Are these combinations related by blood?
The only possibility that Aurelius could think of was that a certain generation of their family was the result of two blood-cursed coming together, and they happened to inherit two blood-cursed ancestors. This resulted in the entire family perishing. His parents, grandparents, and great-grandparents were all blood-cursed. This is the only way Carlos' mentioned situation could occur. What is the probability? It's not just a small probability; it's more like winning the lottery.
But what they experienced was the worst of the worst, the ultimate disaster.
"Honestly, if I had been cursed like that, I wouldn't have survived for long. But that guy is surprisingly optimistic," Carlos sighed.
"He and his family opened a zoo, made money, and then tried to find ways to reverse the curse. He has sought help from numerous people and spent a lot of money in the hope of breaking the blood curse. Unfortunately, there is no hope of lifting the curse, and many people have been deceived... To be honest, I truly admire that guy."
"What's his name?" Aurelius asked.
"Abdel Aziz. Wait, are you still planning to meet him?" Carlos looked at Aurelius with surprise. "Then I suggest you not to bother. It's been several years, and I'm afraid he no longer remembers who he is."
"That's not true. I want to write a travel diary to document everything I see and hear along the way. Who knows, maybe it can be published one day in the future," Aurelius replied immediately, humorously, although deep down, he had already engraved that name in his memory.
Egypt, a place with a profound mythical significance in legends, might be even more extraordinary in this enchanted world. He knew he would have to visit there sooner or later.
Carlos didn't chat with Aurelius for too long. As a clown, he was very relaxed when he wasn't performing. After all, he was a veteran in the industry and performing was second nature to him. He only needed to practice his basic skills to keep himself in good shape. But Aurelius didn't have much time. He was being trained by Skender, as an animal trainer. This training was different from what Igor had received; Skender was teaching Aurelius.
Although Aurelius didn't particularly like Skender's act, which involved axes, a handful of dates, and some sweet-talking, it reminded him of something familiar - the techniques used by Muggle animal trainers during this era. However, unlike the flashy displays of wizarding abilities, there were no such showcases here.
The idea of training magical creatures in the same way that Muggles handled ordinary beasts didn't inspire much confidence in Aurelius. Almost all the magical animals in the circus, including the Zouwu, had scars as a result.
The program's overall impact was mediocre, partly because of the resistance shown by the magical beasts. Having closely observed Newt, an expert on magical animals, for a long time, Aurelius held a strong opinion. He believed that Newt's magical animals were much more spirited and obedient, unlike the circus animals.
As a trainer, Newt surpassed Skender by far. Additionally, Aurelius happened to have Newt's book - "Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them". This valuable resource provided detailed information on the characteristics, advantages, and disadvantages of numerous magical creatures, as well as techniques for handling them and escaping when necessary.
Aurelius found this book to be a much more effective tool compared to Skender's method.
