Ezra saved him so many times that he’d considered rather strongly, at some point, just to leave him to the ‘demons’, as the old man calls them. If it wasn’t for the fact that Perenelle is the only person who can interpret the archives, Ezra would have chewed up the bag of bones himself.
They find their way out through a manhole cover just off the bloody Eiffel Tower. Thankfully, Perenelle had offered Ezra a pair of Nicolas’ trousers when they’d left, or he would be wandering the Champ de Mars in his skivvies.
He’s already been arrested for public indecency once. A second time is begging for trouble.
Nicolas is the last one out and Lane keeps him with the group by tapping the hilt of their now-glamoured sword menacingly, while Perenelle mutters something to the manhole cover to reseal it.
