The Day to Day

I dropped Freddy off at the headmaster's office and explained what happened. He was a bit pissed but said he would take care of it. And I also have detention for a week now. I walked back to my dorm, the cold airy night reminded me of my home and the home of my friends.

I got back to my dorm and tried sleeping, but I couldn't stop imagining the look of disgust, and anger he had when he saw me in the alley.

I got up in a cold sweat, 3 am, I haven't been in the capital for a week, but it still feels like it's been so long since I've been… home. I eventually got to sleep, though uncomfortably, only waking up to hear Kasago and Henry talking.

"Hey Kasago, can I ask you something?" Henry asked while changing out his shirt.

"Oh, I guess, what is it?" Kasago spoke softly.

"Well you're a smart guy, I bet you've already heard of this, but I was just thinking," Henry put his shoes on.

"Yeah?" Kasago waited.

"Well, my teacher said that some people in this world are born with a special kind of energy called God Ki," Henry said. "Oh yeah, I've heard of that!" Kasago raised his voice.

"Can you explain to me what it's supposed to be, if it did exist, that is." Henry stumbled over his words.

"I haven't studied it too much, but from what I know they're supposed to be very powerful, more powerful naturally than people with more experience or higher-graded spirits," Kasago explained.

"I think I maybe get it now, sort of, thanks Kasago!" Henry smiled as he opened the door.

"Oh, you're welcome," Kasago said awkwardly as he walked across the dorm before leaving the room.

"What're you doing for lunch?" I could hear Henry's voice muffled from behind the door as he shut it.

"I'm heading over to a teahouse I really like in Kaliston, you can come if you want," Kasago asked shyly, in an even less audible tone now.

I fully woke up, "The hell?" I felt dazed and disoriented as if I'd forgotten every moment in my entire life up until that point. I groaned as I grabbed my head, trying to distract myself from my splitting headache.

I shook myself awake, "What were those two on about?" I said hopping up from my bed. I looked over at my clock, it read 9:45, "Shit I'm late for class!" I ran through the dorm room, grabbing my clothes from all over before dressing myself.

Before leaving I quickly glanced at Freddy's borough, but there was nothing inside. Well, not like there had been much there before, but now there wasn't even the lone picture of himself he kept on his desk. I got curious and looked around and it seemed like all evidence that Freddy had ever lived here was gone.

Fine by me, that asshole will get what he deserves, by me or by whatever corrupted official is his parent. Did that guy really think he was stronger than me? I mean seriously? Makes me want to beat his ass all over again just thinking about it.

I left my dorm room shortly after that, the halls empty, void of sound and life. The light from outside seemed to be so distant as I walked past the windows. Everything feels so off, now that I'm here, the capital just doesn't feel right.

I arrived at Spirit Studies a few minutes before the class ended. That annoying teacher guy shot me an angry look as I got in, but I knew he wouldn't do anything. I sat down and looked over at Kusaha. He was just messaging on his phone before looking up at me.

"Hey Fubuki, you showed up." He laughed as he looked up.

"Yeah, I overslept a bit." I grabbed my book out of my bag.

"It's weird, you know, Kasago is always on time, and you're his roommate, and you're always late." He laughed more.

"What'd you mean? I got out of the dorm a few minutes after him." I looked at him confused about what he meant.

"You showed up to class right now, he showed up an hour ago." He looked at me, eyes wide open.

Damn, I guess I kinda remember laying down for a second, but really? An hour? I really need to fix my sleeping habits.

"Anyway, what are we learning right now?" I looked towards the board and then back towards him.

"Fubuki!" Mr. Omorambe yelled.

"Yeah?" I looked at him.

"Are you listening to me?" He slowly walked down the classroom towards me.

"Of course I am." I looked up at him, his face filled with anger and annoyance.

"Really? Then what did I just say?" He waited impatiently.

"Probably something stupid," I replied honestly.

"Not stupid!" He yelled in anger, "Nokotome Reviola was the greatest spirit user in history! He fought 5 master-level spirit users and won 25 years past his prime!" He yelled again.

"So what? He's the phoenix, he should've done more." I said.

"The phoenix spirit is the most powerful, respected, and important spirit in the world! The greatest hero possible could only come from this power!" He yelled louder, slamming his fists on my desk.

"No, he's a coward! He's out there right now doing nothing!" I got up from my seat.

"The hell do you know? You're just some idiot from a far-off town in the country, shut the hell up already kid." He angrily stomped towards the front of the class.

"Yeah, walk away." I mocked him as I sat back down.

The bell rang and I walked out of class, down the hall, and almost down the stairs toward Spirit Training class. When I noticed a hallway, dark, dirty, covered in graffiti. No lights, no signs, just a singular door, seemingly leading to a stairwell. I cautiously walked down the hallway. Every step sends shivers down my spine as I approach the door.

I took one last step forward and was now in front of the door. I began touching the handle, the metal had rusted, but I felt immense energy from it like it would explode if I tried opening it.

"You won't get through, child." a calming voice yet creepy voice spoke from behind me.

When I turned around it was a woman, her eyes closed, but it seemed like she was staring into my soul. She was tall, beautiful, and most of all she had an eerie aura around her. She was someone I did not want to associate with.

"What are you talking about?" I looked at her closed eyes, unable to figure out if she could actually see.

"Trust me, you wish not to open that door." She spoke calmly once more.

"I mean, I was just a bit curious you know?" I stepped away from the door.

"But, if you do wish to venture inside, you still can." Her words terrify me, but I'm so compelled to keep asking questions.

"What do you mean?" I glanced back at the door.

"Once a year, the seal is broken, and a student ventures into the labyrinth beneath the school." why, everything she says, answers one question, then just makes me wonder about 15 other questions.

"I'm sorry, could you explain a bit?' I asked.

"The labyrinth has been sealed by my hand, and when one ventures inside they almost never come out." She said.

"But what's in there lady!" I shouted.

"A great beast held deep beneath the school," she says so calmly, what's wrong with her? How can she just say that?

"And if I don't want to go in? Someone else will?" I asked.

"Yes, and better yet, if you defeat the beast, you will gain power beyond your imagination." She explained.

"When can I go inside? If I wanted to." She pulled out her arm from her long flowing coat, and she held up her hands, holding a 2.

"2 months time, that is all you get to prepare." She put her hand away.

"Wait 2 months to fight a great beast?" I tried asking, but she disappeared, gone like snow to the wind.

That was really weird, who the hell was that? The bell rang, meaning I was late for another class.

"My my boss, how will we deal with our dear Fubuki?" A man in a nice suit, with a high-pitched voice asked. "Lenx, he'll be dealt with, don't you worry." The boss lit up a cigar with his finger. "Dearest master, how would this get done? I mean I don't think I would want to do it, my pockets aren't large enough for the bills you'd need to pay me." The boss pointed at a man across the table from him.

"Yes, boss?" A less muscular man in a tight-fitted dress suit asked.

"Feccitrino you handle it, and that's it, I don't want anyone else to get involved, the more of you idiots I let try to kill the guy the more the chance we get found out." The boss smashed his cigar into the table angrily.
