Everything faded out of sight and out of mind it was just her standing there out in the clearing. With her wrist turned upright, the black cursive bold letters stared back at her. Mocking her. It was all a dream. She thought too much about the ceremony and her mate and the energy around her making her think all sought of things because how could this be. She can't have the same person for a mate and enemy.
There must be a logical explanation but she could not think of anything else but that this was some sort of joke and her mind playing tricks on her. Her only logical explanation was that she was dreaming.
"Asonya why are you just standing there? Let's go the nights not over there." Tyeeka said waving her forward. She wanted to ask if this was a dream but she didn't. What if it wasn't then what? What can she do? What to do if this is not a mistake?
Maybe my mate and enemy both have the same name. Asonya used that thought to put her mind at ease. Deep down Asonya knew somewhere inside of her that this Thaddeus, her mate, and enemy's name are the same but for now they are both different people or she completely read the names wrong. They would change in the morning.
Even with the reassure of this not being real couldn't shake her out of it. Not wanting a mate doesn't mean that the Moon Goddess should have played such tricks on her. Asonya couldn't enjoy the celebration so before it was all over she got up not bothering to excuse herself. She fled the room and to her room where everything was drowned out as soon as she closed the door behind her. No one bothered to say anything once she left because that's how she is while others were too busy enjoying the celebration to realize that she left the room.
Changing into something more comfortable to sleep in she pulled the large t-shirt over her head. She laid down on the bed staring at the ceiling. There was no thought in her head except for a name. Thaddeus.
What is the meaning of having a mate as an enemy? Do I have to kill the one that was meant for me? The person that I was supposed to love and who should love me. How is that possible? If you had a mate that dies you turn rouge. What kind of card has fate dealt her?
Bet they're having a field day watching how this miserable life is going to turn out. Who could play such a cruel joke on her? Your mate is scarce. Your only one true love and the only person you'll ever bond with for the rest of your life.
So why must her enemy and mate be the same? She's sure that they don't have the same name because it has never been recorded in history.
They say that the stronger you are the stronger your enemy. So does this mean her mate is a strong person meaning her enemy is a strong person too? She is also considered as strong in this pack.
Maybe she should sleep it off and in the morning it'll all be a dream. Tomorrow must be the day of the ceremony not to do and this would be considered a weird dream because of her worry about meeting her mate so soon.
Agreeing with that thought she resigned to her bed. This nightmare will be all over once she wakes up in the morning. Her eyes popped open when her alarm went off and without looking in the direction of the sound she lifts her hand turning it off.
Getting up out of bed she went straight to the bathroom to do her morning routine before going for a run. Slipping out of her t-shirt after brushing her teeth she saw the black cursive letter wrist. THADDEUS. She looked at the other wrist and the same name was written there. Right and left. Enemy of the left and mate on the right.
So it wasn't just a dream. Last night was real. She wishes it wasn't. Maybe the Moon Goddess hates her because the one point in her life that should have been easy and straightforward is complicated and it's up to her to figure it out. Why? Couldn't she be a little bit more lenient to her creation knowing what she went through growing up? A wolf without a father and mother. No pack. She would have gone rogue if it wasn't for the luna of this pack. They all wanted to kill her since the pack was having rogues attack recently but the luna saved her.
She was just 11 then, roaming the woods alone. She was dirty, clothes tattered, there was cuts and scrapes all over her body, her hair full of twigs and leaf with knots that you would have thought would be impossible to comb. She was starving couldn't remember her last meal.
She didn't know where she was going until she stumbled into the River Thane Pack and was immediately found and surrounded by border patrol.
If it was any other wolf she would and lost her life then and there but because she was just a child who hasn't shift yet they hesitated. No one wanted to kill a child. Even though they didn't move to hurt her she was so scared she trembled where she stand until her feet gave up. So she sat there while the border patrols didn't know what to do with her. Looking at her sorry state they were sympathetic and decided to make the alpha deal with it. Mind linking the alpha to come down to the pack border where the little rogue was they stood there and waited for their Alpha.
Who sneered at Asonya as soon as he saw her. He hated rogues who wonder into his territory whether big or small. "Why isn't she dead yet?" he turned his hatred to his two border patrols. "Can't you guys do your job right you have to call me down her to deal with this filth that's just a child."
There head was bowed not daring to look into the eyes of their Alpha. They felt ashamed being scold but it was better than killing the child and having her blood on there hands. Let the Alpha do it, he's the Alpha for a reason he's heartless.
"Sorry Alpha Thane, we didn't know what to do since she's a child and she hasn't shift as yet. And we didn't sense any danger," one of the border patrol said.
"You didn't sense any danger? All rogues are the same they kill and create chaos. Children or adult they all have ill-intention. She may not be able to use her claws for now but wait until she is older. Just kill it before it can change into a wolf," he ordered mercilessly.
The two looked at Asonya whose thin body was shaking uncontrollably in fear. Her heart was beating so fast she thought she might pass out from its strong force. They didn't move to kill her immediately which made the Alpha impatient.
Wasting my goddamn time to come deal with a filthy rogue they didn't need my attention. He thought. "What are you waiting for? Kill the damn thing or you want me to do it," he added when he saw how hesitant they were.
"No Alpha," they answered knowing that if he did it, it would be painful to die by his hand seeing the countless rogues they he killed who suffered before there last breath. He would make her bleed out rather than a quick death.
They could do that for her at least to not make her suffer any more. Not wanting to stall any longer and make the Alpha angry one of them step forward. Just a quick death and this will be over for you and them.
Asonya did crawl away in fear when the touring male wolf came closer to her. Not because she was and brave and not afriad of death but because she was too hungry and weak to move.
Seeing that the little girl as resigned to her fate he was more reluctant to so this. What as she experience that made her give up on life this easy? He felt his heart racing and knew that if he killed her now a part of him will die. How is it that this will cause damage but when he killed other rogues he felt nothing.
He didn't want to look in her eyes. He had to look else where because he didn't want to disobey the Alpha's order and not kill her.
"Stop! What are you doing?" A voice asked eyes glaring at the three me standing there especially the one standing over the child with his hand extended to end her life. Any second late and that child would have been dead.
