Chapter 1Bloody Night

Lights opened up as a man in an old Meiji Era police uniform walked down the street. His hair was grey, and his eyes were as deep blue as the seas. He held a Japanese-styled blade, and a lit cigarette could be seen in his mouth.

"Help me! Please help me!" a girl, who appeared to be in her early twenties, screamed as she ran towards the man. Her hands were tied up behind her back, and she was being chased by about six dudes wearing traditional kimonos. The girl ran behind the man in the police uniform, tears streaming down her eyes.

"Why are they chasing after you?" the man in the police uniform asked, putting out his cigarette. The six men chasing the girl had already halted.

"It doesn't concern you why we are chasing her. You can deliver her to us, and we can all pretend this never happened," one of the six men said. He had a samurai cut and a scar running down his cheeks.

"I see. I don't want trouble, and since you guys suggest we can pretend nothing happened, you can have her," the man in the police uniform said, stepping aside and making the girl unexpectedly slump to the ground.

The samurai with the scar nudged two of the other guys to go and bring the girl, tightly gripping his katana. As the two instructed guys approached the girl, a quick and barely noticeable arc suddenly appeared.

"Didn't you even look at my clothes? I really hate insults," the man in the police uniform said, wiping blood from his katana. He had drawn his katana when those two got within close range.

"You!" the man with the scar on his face screamed in rage as he ran towards the man in the police uniform, closely followed by the remaining three.

"This is the only reason why I joined the police. I won't be charged for things like this," the man in the police uniform said as he rushed toward the four racing towards him.

Clank! His katana locked with that of the scarred man as he took a quick roll, drawing it back to cut the closest guy. It was a slight cut at the side abdomen, but it was enough to put the man down.

Clank! Clank! Clank! The sound of katana clashing filled the air as the man in the police uniform engaged the remaining three. A katana swept closely towards his head, but he tilted his head slightly to the side, using his katana scabbard to defend against the two attackers in front of him. Simultaneously, he struck his katana behind him in the direction the attack came from, piercing the throat of the assailant.

"Honjo!!!" the scarred man screamed as a katana pierced through his belly.

"You shouldn't lose your cool when you're still in a fight," the man in the police uniform said as he slowly withdrew his katana from the belly of the scarred man, preparing to face the last person. However, the man was running away.

Bang! The fleeing man's body collapsed with a thud as another man in a grey kimono robe for samurais drew his katana from the fallen figure.

"Interesting, fantabulous, I love it," the man in the grey kimono said, a weird smile appearing on his face. He was quite handsome and seemed to be in his thirties.

"And you are?" the man in the police uniform asked.

"I am Itaro Shunji. I received news that there's a really tough policeman here. I guess that's you," Shunji said, the smile still hanging on his face.

"Guess they lied to you because I haven't seen any," the man in the police uniform replied.

"Oh, I see. You're pretty strong. What's the need of being a policeman when you can earn more just by swinging your katana?" Shunji said as he walked towards the man in the police uniform, wiping his katana with a white handkerchief.

"I'm not really interested in living a boring life," the man in the police uniform said, attempting to pull out a pack of cigarettes. But before he could finish, Shunji dashed towards him, causing the cigarette pack to fall from his hands. The man in the police uniform quickly dodged the attack by tilting his body backward.

Distancing himself, the man in the police uniform looked at Shunji, who stood in his former position with a slight smile on his face.

"You're fast," Shunji said, straightening up his body once more.

"Do you know that cigarette pack cost me quite a bit?" the policeman said, looking at his uniform, which had a slight horizontal slash that exposed his skin. He then looked at the cigarette pack on the floor.

Reincarnated: Vive La France

France, 1934. The scars of the Great War still shape the military minds of the Third Republic. Trapped in the past, its generals place their faith in fortifications and defensive warfare, while across the Rhine, a new German army rises, faster, deadlier, and ready to crush everything in its path. Into this world awakens Captain Étienne Moreau, a man who should not exist. He remembers another life, one where France falls in 1940, where German tanks storm through the Ardennes, bypassing the Maginot Line. One where his country surrenders in a matter of weeks. But here, now, he has a chance to stop it. As an officer in the 2nd Armored Division, he fights for reforms: pushing for mobile tank warfare, warning of Hitler’s growing ambitions, and challenging the high command’s obsession with World War I tactics. Yet, his ideas are dismissed as radical, madness from a young officer who "thinks he knows war." Surrounded by political intrigue, military infighting, and rising fascism, Moreau must carefully navigate the system, winning allies among future leaders like Charles de Gaulle, while avoiding suspicion from the French High Command. His knowledge is a double-edged sword, if he is too aggressive, he risks being labeled a traitor. If he does nothing, he will live to see France burn. As war draws closer, Moreau faces a terrifying question: Can history be changed? Or is France doomed to fall, no matter what he does? Time is running out. The Blitzkrieg is coming. And he may be France’s last chance to fight back. -------------- Join my Discord Server. https://discord.gg/jma9zt3eNs I'm writing in a pretty niche genre, so I don't expect a huge number of readers.
