Chapter 3: The Parallel World

In a daze, Gu Fanyu slowly opened his eyes, his head spinning as he tried to gather his thoughts. The room around him was unfamiliar—a large bedroom furnished with sleek, modern decor. He found himself lying on the floor in the middle of it, disoriented.

"This... isn't my office. Did I really transmigrate?"

After taking a deep breath to steady his mind, Gu Fanyu let out a long sigh. He glanced around the room again, shaking his head slightly. Instead of dwelling on the situation, he decided to test the System.

"System... System!"

The System's voice immediately responded, but this time it echoed directly in his mind. "Host, there's no need to speak aloud. We can communicate telepathically. Unless, of course, you want people to think you've lost your mind."

"Oh," Gu Fanyu muttered internally, "Tell me, where am I?"

"This is Earth, but not the Earth you know."

"What do you mean?"

"The System only has basic information about this world. For more detailed information, you'll need to spend 1,000 world origin points, which will allow the System to scan this world."

Narrowing his eyes, Gu Fanyu asked thoughtfully, "How many world origin points do I have left?"

"You have 7,500 units remaining. 2,000 were consumed for traveling here, 500 for rebuilding your body, and 1,000 for creating a valid identity for you in this world. However, that identity will only last for one year. After that, the world's will can sense you're an otherworlder."

Gu Fanyu calmly analyzed the crucial information the System had just provided—world origin points, the world's will, and the fact that his body had been rebuilt. These were new concepts, but his sharp mind quickly deduced their significance.

World origin points were likely a type of energy or currency that the System relied on. The world's will seemed to be the consciousness of this planet, and his physical body, now stronger and brimming with vitality, had clearly undergone a transformation.

After a moment of silence, Gu Fanyu stood and walked to the window. It was daytime, and he could see the cityscape—tall buildings similar to those on his Earth. But the people on the streets below weren't Chinese; they were American. An American flag fluttered on one of the buildings nearby.

A realization dawned on him. This was a parallel world.

"System, scan this world!" Gu Fanyu commanded.

Instantly, an invisible energy surged from him, sweeping across the planet at the speed of light. No one, not even the world's will, could detect the scan.

Gu Fanyu read the information calmly, though his eyes gleamed with excitement. This was a world where supernatural powers truly existed.

His initial impulse was to rush outside and witness these powers firsthand, but he quickly reined in his enthusiasm. He had just arrived in this world, and there was still much he didn't understand. One wrong move could be fatal.

"System, explain a bit about these supernatural beings. How strong is a third-layer supernatural being?" Gu Fanyu asked, curiosity evident in his voice.

"Host, supernatural beings are no longer mere mortals. They are higher lifeforms with power beyond mortal comprehension. A third-layer supernatural being is in the initial stage, but their strength can shake the world. To mortals, they appear god-like. In simple terms, their full power is equivalent to that of an atomic bomb," the System replied, its tone casual.

Gu Fanyu's eyes sparkled with excitement and a fierce desire for power. But he knew he couldn't afford to be impatient. After all, he was still just an ordinary human.

Suddenly, a thought crossed his mind, and his expression turned serious. "Damn! I need to get out of here before the owner of this house returns. I don't want to be arrested right after arriving in this world. That would be... awkward."

Before he could take a step, the System stopped him. "Wait, host. You don't need to leave. This is your house."

"Huh? System, I don't have time for jokes. Explain yourself."

"As I mentioned, I created a valid identity for you in this world. But instead of creating a new one, I... borrowed an existing one."

Gu Fanyu paused, then asked, "System, if I've taken over this identity, where is the original person?"

"He's dead."

"Dead? Did you kill him?" Gu Fanyu asked, his expression unreadable.

"No. Although the System is powerful, I am forbidden by the laws of the universe from directly killing any living being," the System replied.

Gu Fanyu calmly absorbed this information. He knew the System was telling the truth—since they were bound, they couldn't lie to each other.

"Did he die here? And where's his body?"

"Yes, he died here. I destroyed his body after absorbing his origin."

"How did he die?"

"The System doesn't know."

Now, Gu Fanyu was truly intrigued. Who was the original person whose identity he had taken over? And more importantly, how did he die?
