When Basil saw Amanda trailing behind Abner, he would not call it dejection, but he felt a bit hurt, even a bit heartbroken, and it somehow felt like Amanda had betrayed him. After all, she had previously assured him she wouldn't become involved with Abner.
Dawn noticed something was off with Basil and looked back to ask, "What's wrong?"
"I'm fine." Basil waved dismissively. Dawn didn't know Amanda, and he didn't want to involve Dawn in Amanda's matters. Whether Amanda chose to be with Abner or not was entirely her business. He wasn't anyone to Amanda - what right did he have to be so concerned?
"Are you really?" Dawn frowned. She felt something was off with Basil but couldn't put her finger on it. However, she vaguely felt that Basil's odd behavior began when Abner entered.
