Chaotic System: A Former Assassin in the Game of the Gods

For too long, Riku was content with the simple life of a sushi chef. Having left behind the hectic life of an assassin, his knife now only knows the flesh of fish and food as he hones his craft with both the poor and rich alike. His skills translated well into running his restaurant, his professionalism and dedication to having a perfect record refusing to leave him even in such a low stakes job as running a sushi restaurant.  But then, just as he was cleaning up, he was whisked away to participate in a game that would determine the new god of all existence. While lacking in knowledge about his new surroundings, Riku is still a professional through and through. Offered with the bounty of having his unconditional wishes granted, the Goddess that summoned him wishes for him to win her this game. Well, then he'll just have to make sure that their victory will be as complete as he could possibly make it... Against fantastical beasts and opponent Champions, his skills as an assassin and a combatant will be put to the test. He'll just have to make this Chaotic System actually work to his favor instead of it randomly spitting out nonsensical situational powers that he couldn't use. *** The Deep Blue... The home of the Gods... For eons, the Thirteen Gods have lived together in harmony together with the God Father within the Deep Blue's calm waters. Together, they watched over the universe, content with simply observing as they all worked in tandem with their respective aspects to exact their Father's will. That was, until the God Father died without explanation, and His power locked away until a successor was chosen among His children. Left with an ultimatum, the Thirteen Gods argued on who should inherit their Father's power. Eventually, the arguments became clashes, and the gods eventually realized that them fighting to the death would spell the end of the world. Thus, an agreement was formed. Each of the Thirteen Gods would choose a champion from the sea of souls to fight on their behalf. These champions would brave the Deep Blue's dangers to reach the very bottom of its depths, and whoever gets there first would grant their patron god the right to inherit the God Father's power. Or at least, that was the original agreement. One goddess chose to defy her siblings, deciding to take matters into her own hands by choosing a former assassin-turned-sushi chef as her Champion. Granting him a power well beyond the rules of the game, she is certain that Riku would be the one to end her siblings' endless debates. After all, a goddess of chaos need not to follow the rules...

2 The Beginning

SOME TIME AGO

{NYX POV}

The Deep Blue... The realm where the Thirteen Gods resided. Surrounded by the spirit-filled waters of the Ocean of Life, it existed between worlds, allowing it to remain hidden from mortals that might possibly want to enter its confines. Hidden within its lowest depths, in the darkness of the sub-realm of Ultima Thule, Nyx lazed around in her bed. The Goddess of Chaos was bored. Bored and angry. A very dangerous combination for someone whose aspect was over chaos.

"I don't know why Father even created you..." she mockingly repeated to herself. "Let your older siblings sort this out. I'm sure it'll all turn out fine..."

Her voice dripped with both annoyance and despair. Yes, she was bored. The pricks on the edges of her eyes were certainly not tears...

"You're Father's favorite. Of course, you wouldn't understand..." she grumbled, almost halfway sobbing with each syllable. "You're the youngest out of all of us, Little Nyx. The burden of being of usurping Father's duties might be beyond you..."

Always with the patronizing words. Always being treated like a child... Why? She was just as much of a god as the rest of them!

"And now they've all but locked me in my own realm," Nyx pouted to herself as she rolled around on her bed, her cloak acting as her blanket as she buried herself under her pillows. "Not even allowed to participate in what's supposed to be a hands-on meeting."

As a part of the Thirteen Gods, she too had a part in maintaining balance to the universe. In fact, the God Father created her for the expressed purpose of creating chaos to give meaning to order. Perfection was boring, and despite her siblings' annoyance to her antics, she knew that her Father approved of her actions.

It was the same old story even back when He was alive. Her siblings always thought of her as their adorable little sister. While some of them constantly chided and scolded her, she knew that they still loved her deep down. They all loved one another as siblings. It was just simply unavoidable to have petty arguments about their clashing domains.

Still, while she expected the constant arguments with God Father now gone, she didn't expect them to go this long without coming to a conclusion. Even more, the fact that they all came to the conclusion of forming some kind of game with the Deep Blue as their playground... something that even she thought was stupid. And she was the Goddess of Chaos for crying out loud!

"Father wouldn't approve of what they're doing," Nyx frowned as she finally moved to stand up from her bed. "Then again, I don't know if participating would be the right move."

Letting out a sigh, Nyx lazily made her way to her Chaotic Mirror. It was her way of exerting her power wherever it was needed, and while it was weaker than her actual workstation in the Work Room, it would suit her needs in choosing a Champion for the stupid game her siblings wanted to play.

"Let's see..." she hummed to herself as she casually browsed through the mortal realm. "I want someone ambitious... with a side of insanity and occasional lack of morals... Someone..."

With her thoughts hanging, Nyx slowly honed in on a particular man. One that was currently hard at work preparing food in his own sushi restaurant. Unknown to her, her own chaotic nature worked both with and against her as she watched the man work, her stomach growling as she saw the plates of sushi being served on a conveyer belt...

{RIKU POV}

"Another day of customers..."

Riku was a simple man. He went to work, he cooked, he honed his craft, and he went home. It was a simple life, one free from the hustle and bustle of being a government hitman. Unlike before where he used his knife to take lives, he now only used it to show respect to the ingredients presented to him. To create good food and make people happy.

"Order up!"

Cooking was his life now, sushi even more so as he opened his own restaurant the moment his government contract expired. It was hard at first adjusting to the simple life of running a restaurant, but he eventually made things work. He had his trusty knife, and there was always more fish out there to clean and prepare as his notoriety as a chef began to grow along with his cooking ability. His only customer back in the day became two. Then two became four. Eventually, he was cooking for all sorts of people that some even wanted to hire as their own personal chef.

Unfortunately for them, he didn't care for the money they tried to give to him. He was already rich from all of the people he killed. He now cared for nothing except for his restaurant and his craft, and there was nothing that would ever change that.

"May I help you?"

Well, that was until some big chain sushi chain opened up right in front of his small restaurant. It wasn't really a problem though. His regulars still went to him, and there was nothing his competitor could do to change that. In fact, his restaurant was seeing lines every single day while the big chain simply had the usual customer load expected of them.

"This is our final offer, Mr. Tachibana," the suit in front of him firmly stated. "We are offering you millions upon millions of Yen for you to sell this establishment to us."

"And again, like what I've always said even before your bosses upped the offer, my answer is still no," Riku scoffed, his knife still in his hand as he cooked while he talked. "There is nothing you can offer me that will ever want me to sell this place."

"Not even if your life will be the one you will have to pay next time?"

Riku raised a brow at the man even bothering to threaten him in his own restaurant. Thankfully, it was still a few hours before opening, so there were no customers to see what was about to happen.

"You do realize that I can just call the police right here and now if you do what I think you'll do, right?" he cautiously answered, his grip on his knife tightening with each second.

"You underestimate who exactly you're trying to fight, Mr. Tachibana."

Riku took in a deep breath as he prepared himself for the inevitable. Clearly, the man had a gun based on where his hand was currently at. Well, if this man wanted to die, then so be it.

"Unfortunately for you, I kind of don't care," Riku chuckled as he stepped forward, his trusty knife in his hand as he pointed it at the man. "Leave my restaurant. Now."

"Don't say I didn't warn you."
