Business over pleasure

Veronica looks at her watch in a hurry, praying she makes it on time for work. She curses herself for how she could have forgotten to set the alarm to get to work on time. Veronica finally arrives at the building looking at Atlanta's finest company named ATLANTIC ADVERTISEMENT.

She quickly hurried into the elevator pressing for the 15th floor. "Hold the elevator please," a middle-aged blonde woman asked. Veronica quickly presses the open button smiling at the woman letting her in as she curses the woman in her head for making her even more late. The woman presses the button number 13

Veronica quickly exits the elevator running to her desk. Hellos from other co-workers come her way as she smiles at them. Veronica puts her belongings beside her desk quickly logging in looking at the time on her computer 10:10 she needed to be at work by 10 hopefully her boss doesn't notice

Beep "Veronica could you please make it into my office now." The tone of her boss's voice states that it wasn't a question more so a statement. She quickly makes her way to his office, not before knocking on the door and entering when he says, "come in" "you summoned me sir" Veronica gave her boss eye contact making her look more confident. Standing at 5,11 long natural hair with the body of a goddess people normally thought she was prestige, or her body was fake.

"Miss Calhoun, what time does work start please," her boss asks while looking at her with a glare "10 am sir" she answered immediately without a sense of hesitation or stutter." Her boss looks away from her as he faces towards the window highlighting the beautiful city of Atlanta. " Ah I see so what makes your think coming to work 10 minutes late justifies you from the rest" Veronica gulps not really having a proper answer making her feel quite embarrassed " your task is already on your desk make sure not to let this happen again please miss Calhoun" He swirls around in his chair looking at her with raised eyebrows

Veronica nods immediately while apologizing as she makes her exit. She sits on her desk seeing the note on top of a workload of folders making her determined to complete this to the best of her qualities. Veronica is due for a promotion, and she is hoping that next month that all her arduous work comes noticed, making it a step easier.

" Oh my gosh, I almost thought he was going to wring your neck in there" her friend/co-worker Imani said while walking to her desk. Imani has been Veronica's friend from when she started working 2 years ago, starting first as a receptionist now making her the assistant to her boss. Imani was the first person who actually spoke to her, and they hit it off very quickly.

Veronica rolled her eyes smugly "No he was just tryna show authority letting me know how he is the big boss, and I should be on time" she says while typing on her computer and highlighting company names"

" Yeah, ever since his wife divorced him, he has been nothing but a grinch" Imani whispered to her while looking at her surroundings not wanting anyone snitching on her " This is only your second time being late ever for the last 2 years while I have worked here for 3 and been late more than I can count on my fingers " Imani

said while trying to count on her finger while shaking her head giggling

Veronica breathed out a laugh while shaking her head at her friend. She remembers the one time she had to log in for Imani because she almost got fired.

They both heard the door her boss practically lives in making Imani quickly jog to her desk getting back to work. Her boss came up to her " Miss Calhoun I've just received news on a partnership and a meeting is being held tomorrow I expect you to be there on time tomorrow as I have an important job for you and when you are done with the folders just give them to Felix" Her boss points at the Asian man who looks like he is an addict to coffee as he is never seen without one.

Veronica watches as her boss walks away while always taking a glance at Felix, Felix always tried sabotaging Veronica because she was better at doing her job than him, yet it seems like the men always wanted a second opinion from another man besides Veronica, she continued her work just trying to get the day quicker

The time was 9 pm and Veronica finally left her place of work. She should have finished at 8:30 but as usual, Felix did something to her paperwork making her have to read over it again, however, she wouldn't let him get underneath her skin.

Now drinking her iced coffee and trying to stay awake she was then walking to the bus stop and looking over the company her boss mentioned about the partnership she learnt the company is a multi-million company with a phenomenally successful rating "why didn't I apply for a job there" she muttered unfortunately not looking at her surroundings she trips on an uneven pavement and bumps into someone pouring her coffee on them.

"What the fuck" the person shouts while looking at his attire Veronica gasps while feeling very embarrassed " I'm so sorry I didn't even see you there sir c-" The male cut her off " Yeah next time how about you watch where the fuck you're going now I'm gonna be sticky and late to my function" taken aback by the tone Veronica began getting annoyed " Sir I know what I did was bad but you could watch your tone on how you speak people," she said with arms crossed getting highly annoyed of course she felt bad but the guy was being an ass " what ? You pour coffee on me and expect me to not get mad about that. You sound dumb excuse me" the man brushed passed her and continued walking.

However, Veronica could have sworn he heard her call a bitch which made her shout "At least the coffee was cold and didn't burn you asshole" The man didn't look back and she didn't bother to look back as she stormed to the bus stop.
