Chapter 35: A Hasty Departure

Vix sat rigid in her seat, feeling like her body had turned to ice. “Then, they know we’re here?” she whispered.

Mirra leapt upright, as quick as though she had springs in her feet. “We have to leave.” The witch made a beeline toward the nearest wall and began running her hands wildly along it, her arms splayed like the legs of a drunken spider.

Vix watched her in shock. “What are you doing?”

“I know it’s here... somewhere...” Mirra grunted. Her face shone with sweat as she scrabbled blindly at the wall.

Just as Vix was beginning to think she had gone mad, Mirra suddenly let out a cry of triumph. “There!”

Her hand sunk into a section of wall that had been solid a moment ago. There was a loud clunk, followed by a grinding noise, and a patch of stone suddenly swung inward, leaving an opening just wide enough for a person to squeeze through.

“Come on!” Mirra gestured to them frantically. “Hurry!”
