A stranger's life- trapped in a world that's not my own.

"woo woo woo." The sound of the police siren became louder as their car came closer; I have been out here for what feels like ages.

"What's going on?"

"Are they still alive?" I tried hearing what the police officers were saying.

"Look." I was barely conscious, swear dripping from every part of my body, my legs numb and irresponsible to the signals I have been giving it. but I could hear the sound of the police officers as they moved around the woods; it was easy to tell what direction they were coming from because of the loud noise they made while stepping on dried leaves.

"Isn't that ... Who is she?"

"Let's get her out of here", I heard a female police officer say; I began floating into the abyss... Wait, wait, no, not really, I was just being carried on a stretcher.

"Maya," I called her name as I clenched my fist; why would she push me down the hill?

(5 hours later)

"I see you are awake," Nurse Rachel said as she walked into my hospital room; of course, I was; I was unconscious, not dead.

"You can come in now," she said as two men entered the room; they were both holding tiny books and a pen; are the journalists? Am I a celebrity? Of course, I am; that should explain why that girl wanted to get rid of me.

"Good day, my name is Detective Styles, and this is my partner Detective Lee," The gentleman said as he introduced himself and his partner. That explains the dark shades, the badge on his belt, and the toothpick. They looked like they had just walked out of a movie production set.

"Hi, I am soohie. How can I help you?" I said as Nurse Rachel gave an encouraging smile, but the detectives, on the other hand, looked like they'd just seen a ghost. Nurse Rachel did tell me I was suffering from temporary memory loss, which was caused by blunt trauma to the back of my head. She also told me that I could get triggers and flashbacks of who I am.

"Is anything wrong?" I asked trying to release the tension that was already building up.

"Nothing at all," Detective Lee said, although his eyes suggested otherwise.

"Do you know this woman" he brought out a picture of me.

"Of course," I scoffed, "Come on now, you've got to be joking. "That's me" I could barely remember how I got to the forest or what I was doing there in the first place, but one thing I know for sure is my name, my name is Sophie Grant the only daughter of the Grant family and my boyfriend is Ethan blackwood, and I am a freshman in Oakville university.

"I am sure your accident might have messed with your memories a little; tell me, who is this?" He brought out a picture of Maya this time around.

"Maya" I answered certain.

"She was the one who pushed me down the hill, where I injured my legs" I added.

"She was the one who called the ambulance and reported that you were down the hill. Why would she do that if it was her intention to get you there?" Detective styles said.

"I don't know; maybe she was trying to prevent any suspicion. Wass there another reason? Or maybe she knew I survived, and I don't know. But that's Maya"

"You don't think that's you?" Detective Lee suggested.

"Well, I get it. We somehow looked alike for an unknown reason. But I have always worn contacts, a blonde wig, and designer clothing. Maya, on the other hand, could not even afford those things, that's why she tried to steal them from me. Does she think the blonde wig and the contacts are what makes me, Sophie?"

"Something's not adding up here," Detective Lee said as he took down some notes.

"What?" Are they coming from Maya's room? Well, if they are, it explains their doubt.

"Never mind, so tell me about your past; anything significant for us to know that you are indeed not the person in this picture but this?" Detective Styles said as he waved the two pictures right in front of me.

"What don't you understand? I can't remember anything. I can tell you my name, my parents, and where I grew up, but that's it. I cannot recall any other details." Detective Styles shook his head as he crossed his arms; I felt my words falling on deaf ears, and I could see the disbelief in his eyes.

"Well, you both look alike but. If you did lose your memories, how come you know all these details about Sophie?"

"Knock knock," there was a knock at the door, Interrupting Detective Lee.

"Maya, you are under arrest for the murder of Alexandra Grayson. Anything you say can and will be used against you in a court of law." Two more police officers barged into my room with their uniforms and riffles.

"I am Sophie, stop calling me Maya." Tears began to stream down my face and into my hands, why is Maya doing this?

"That's impossible, how can we have two Sophie's and no Maya?" The police officer snapped back at me as he cuffed me to my bed.

"Take her blood and that of Sophie's, run it through the lab with that of their parents. I think we can get the liar from there, so we would know who is Sophie from amongst them and who is Maya, also we would know who is responsible for the death of Alexandra" detective styles gave instructions to his colleagues.

"There is no need to cuff her; she is temporarily immobilized," Nurse Rachel said in a snarky tone; why did everyone think I was lying? Why would I injure myself for no reason?

"What about Sophie? Is she allowed to leave the hospital?" Lee asked his partner.

"But I am Sophie," I said as I placed my hands on my face gently; I can't believe Maya is going to get away with this; is there no justice?

"No, she should also be handcuffed for the time being; we don't want the murder out of our custody, y" Detective Styles said as he walked out of the room.

"What an interesting case we have at hand," Detective Lee said, following suit.

(2 days later)

Detective Styles was about to begin his speech as he sat down; the briefing was being held in my hospital room as I was unable to walk at the moment, unlike the fake Sophie. Everyone was here: the detectives, me, fake Sophie, Mr and Mrs Grant, Mrs. Patal and Ethan for some weird reason, and lastly, the Graysons.

"Thank you, everyone, for joining us today; I have some interesting news about this case. It has been a roller coaster ride, to begin with, but I am glad everyone on my team was able to help put it together; some new shocking discoveries may or may not have been coincidences."

"I will cut straight to the point; firstly, due to the evidence we've gathered, the case of Alexandra Grayson is not a murder case we all assumed earlier, but a case of a fatal accident, which was proven by the evidence at hand. The case has nothing to do with theSophie'sscaseather,r i is just all a c oincidence He paused as he flipped open the report book he was reading from.

"Huh," Alexandra's mom made a loud gasp as she began sobbing uncontrollably; I couldn't care less, though; all I was concerned about was the part where he announced that I was the real Sophie.

"After the test from the lab, we discovered that Sophie and Maya are identical Twins, I think that explains their striking resemblance. And so their DNA is, in fact, a replica of each other, so we could not tell who Sophie was from the test, sadly. After further investigating and checking all evidence on the ground which proves that this is Sophie Grant and you are indeed Maya Patal, just like we all thought"

Everyone went towards fake Sophie, cheering her on like she had just wonwon thetthe tery. On the other hand, Mrs. Patal came towards me, hugging Meg.

That's not true, I am the real Sophie! I looked across the room to see fake Sophie smiling at me like she had won. She was indeed the intruder why wouldn't they just say so?

"Shush, don't cry dear, I believe you; you are Sophie," Mrs Patel whispered into my ears.
