A Forbidden Affection

Honestly, this sort of story isn't normally my thing, but I ran across it somehow and felt it needed a read. Overall, we have a standard forbidden romance with mafia mixed in to spice things up. You have to read the synopsis because it's the only source for backstory at the moment. The Good: The writing quality is good. While the story is generic, it's got enough meat that it stands on its own. The author gives enough imagery that makes it easy to "see" what is going on in several cases. The Bad: I dislike first-person. Fortunately, they don't switch POV mid-chapter, so it isn't that bad. We don't always get to see or hear everything that the POV character sees or hears, and it is slightly off-putting, but that is my own personal preference. I need more world details as well. So far, the only thing I've been able to gather is that we're in a city called Shadowbrook and that Cassandra is the boss's girl. The Neutral: Is Cassandra Anthony's wife or his girlfriend? If we're going to find out later, don't worry about this. We're quickly thrown into a first chapter without much exposition, and the details in the synopsis don't quite fit with the story, but I'm guessing this will make more sense later as this is quite early in the story. What does Cassandra look like? What does Candice look like? What is Kevin and Cassandra's history? I'm assuming that the last one will come eventually, though. Fun fact, if a mob boss was married, it was considered okay to have a mistress or two so long as she was foreign and thus considered socially inferior and unable to raise or educate a child. They didn't want to risk destabilizing the family and ruining their reputation.

I'm loving every bit of this. Looking forward to more chapters.
