In sorcerer knowledge, this was a natural phenomenon from primary rainbows corresponding to secondary rainbows.

Primary rainbows were the seven colors that were emitted from the refraction of sunlight when it came in contact with existing water droplets after it rained.

Rainbows were normally arc-shaped with seven colors and appeared opposite the sun's position.
