The Type-II Chirami's body was riddled with holes, yet it continued to regenerate rapidly as an endless swarm of juvenile Chirami fused into it. Its size grew increasingly massive, and its external bio-armor began to radiate with a vibrant luster, showing signs of evolution toward a Type-III form.
Su Ming shook his head slightly as he watched the ongoing battle. The situation was looking grim.
Suddenly, the swollen Chirami's body began to contract violently. The previously twenty-meter-tall form shrank to fifteen meters, and its incomplete spherical head split open to reveal a grotesque maw.
Zzzzz!
Black lightning crackled ominously.
Swish!
A black beam of energy swept across the battlefield.
Boom!
Explosions ripped through the area as multiple Ironhead mechs and armored vehicles were obliterated.
The Type-II Chirami continued to morph into a humanoid form, its transformation nearing completion.
"We're done for," Captain Han Le muttered, his mech barely rising to its feet as he watched in horror.
Just then, a streak of light shot across the battlefield, slamming into the Chirami's evolving body with precision.
Crack!
A white beam saber pierced clean through the Type-II Chirami's torso, stunning everyone present.
Holding their breath, the onlookers turned to see what had caused such devastating damage.
A towering mech, standing at seventeen meters, emerged from the chaos. It was encased in azure metallic armor, with a beam cannon mounted on its shoulder and a pair of agile mechanical wings attached to its back. Dual beam sabers, each ten meters long, gleamed in its hands, and a black star insignia was emblazoned on its chest.
"The Generation III Mech—Azure Wing!" Su Ming gasped, instantly recognizing the model. This was no ordinary third-generation mech—it bore an honor mark, a testament to its pilot's remarkable achievements.
The black star on its chest was particularly significant. In the Old Federation, as well as in the Theocratic Kingdom of the Apocalypse and the Dark Star Empire, honor marks were awarded for extraordinary feats:
Star marks symbolized renowned warriors who had defeated key enemies or elite alien threats, such as Special Type-III creatures.
Moon marks denoted victories over top-tier opponents, generals, or Type-IV entities.
Sun marks were reserved for those who had vanquished legendary foes, commanders, or Type-V creatures.
Black marks signified alien kills, while red marks represented kills of rival faction personnel.
"How powerful!" Chen Tong and Ming Ke exclaimed, awestruck.
With a single strike, the Azure Wing mech had inflicted severe damage on the evolving Type-II Elite-Class Chirami, causing its vitality to plummet drastically.
The injured Chirami lashed out with its claws, aiming for the Azure Wing.
But the mech swung its second beam saber with precision, slicing the attacking claw cleanly in half. It then pulled out the saber lodged in the Chirami's torso and delivered a devastating slash.
Crack!
The Chirami's head was split open, exposing its writhing internal tissue. The Azure Wing mech didn't relent, continuing to slice through its body with surgical precision. In mere moments, the once-mighty creature was reduced to several dismembered chunks.
With its beam sabers deactivated, the mech retrieved a massive mechanical beam gun. Adjusting its aim, it fired a dispersing beam that blanketed the Chirami's remains.
Zzzzz!
The black cellular tissue disintegrated like bubbles, leaving behind only a dry, lifeless residue.
The Old Federation had long engaged in warfare against both the Chirami and the Machine Race, leading to significant advancements in two key weapon technologies:
1. Optical Weapons: The mechanical beam gun wielded by the Azure Wing was a prime example. It could either focus energy for penetration or disperse it to dissolve biological matter.
2. Electromagnetic Weapons: These were specifically designed to combat the Machine Race.
After ensuring the Chirami was completely neutralized, the Azure Wing mech turned to Han Le and his team.
"The cleanup is yours now," the pilot commanded in a deep, authoritative voice.
"Yes, Lord Zhou Hao!" Han Le and his team responded with fervent respect. Zhou Hao was known to be one of District Chief Xiao Lie's most trusted subordinates.
With a swift leap, the Azure Wing mech ascended into the air and disappeared into the distance.
"Crisis averted. Begin cleanup operations," Han Le ordered, addressing Daniel and the other team members.
"Yes, sir!" they replied in unison.
"Finally, it's over," one student sobbed in relief.
"We're saved!" another exclaimed, tears streaming down their face.
As the battlefield quieted, Han Le turned his attention to the four training mechs. "You four—students, right?"
"Uh... yes, sir," Su Ming and the others replied, slightly nervous.
Han Le nodded, impressed. "Thank you for your help. You were incredibly brave and performed exceptionally well."
"Sir, you're being too kind. We didn't contribute much," Su Ming said, scratching his head.
"Don't be modest. You did an outstanding job," Han Le insisted, his tone sincere.
The unexpected praise left the group blushing with embarrassment.
Before they could fully process the compliment, an older man stormed over, flanked by several others. Dressed in a black suit, with a bald crown, a bushy mustache, and a protruding beer belly, his face was flushed with anger.
Su Ming immediately recognized him—it was Principal Luo Ken.
Luo Ken surveyed the battlefield, his gaze lingering on the numerous casualties among the students. Pointing an accusatory finger at Han Le, he erupted, "What were you people doing? The Chirami invasion happened hours ago, and you're only just arriving now? Do you realize how many students died because of your negligence? This is dereliction of duty, and I will make sure you are held accountable!"
The surviving students turned their attention to Han Le, their expressions a mix of resentment and confusion.
Han Le frowned at the principal's tirade, while Vice Captain Sima sighed and stepped forward.
"Principal Luo, your accusations are completely unfounded. It was the middle of the night. We were all off-duty. The moment the alarm sounded, we rushed to the mech hangar. Do you think mobilizing mechs takes no time? Do you expect us to teleport across the city?"
Luo Ken hesitated, momentarily speechless, but quickly redirected his anger toward Daniel and his patrol team.
"Then it's your fault! You were on patrol and failed to respond in time, leading to the deaths of countless students. This is incompetence, and I will see to it that you are punished!"
