By Her Grace

In the halls of the Red Keep, a tall figure filled the space, followed closely by two Kingsguard and a contingent of castle knights. Prince Aegon, his imposing frame accentuated by his wings, exuded an aura that demanded both awe and caution. The knights murmured among themselves, their eyes darting to the words engraved on his weapons. The two Kingsguard who flanked him regarded him as one might a viper—poised, dangerous, and ready to strike at any moment.

The group stopped at the king's chambers, where Ser Criston Cole stood guard. Time and loss had hardened Criston; the years of anger had forged a man who had perfected a one-handed style of fighting. Ever since Aegon, the towering figure now before him, had severed his hand, Criston had become a living embodiment of resilience and fury.

"Ah, Criston the Broken. No, no… Ser Broken? No, no, too wordy. Cripple Cole—yes, that's the one. Perfect!" Aegon's voice carried a mocking lilt as his eyes gleamed with mischief. His smile widened, baring his teeth as his wings flexed behind him, making his already impressive height seem even greater. The knights took a step back, their unease palpable. Only the Kingsguard stood firm, their bravery unwavering.

Criston Cole met the prince's taunts with a cold smile, saying nothing as he opened the door to the king's chambers. Inside, Queen Alicent sat alone. The king's body had been removed long ago, leaving only his crown resting on the table before her. The room felt hollow, a stark reflection of the losses she had endured.

"Queen Aunt," Aegon greeted as he entered, spreading his arms wide in invitation.

Alicent turned toward the door, her breath catching at the sight of him. The scaly prince, clad in armor that seemed forged for war, filled the space with his presence. Yet she recognized the gesture for what it was: his way of showing off. Rising from her chair, she embraced him tightly.

"You have come back," she said, her voice laced with relief. "The Keep has been far less entertaining without you." She paused, her hands brushing against his armor. "You're warm."

"I am a dragon, my lady. I radiate heat, even in the North. My blood runs hot—do not worry about that." He stepped back, his smile widening. "Today, I will sing at the king's send-off. But for now, I have come for the crown. Gather the ladies and the lords—we crown the new queen of the House of Dragons. Among dragons, blood tends to stain, and men… relieve themselves when they die. It's quite unpleasant."

Alicent's smile faltered slightly at his unsettling humor. "What about the high lords who have come? Will it not be dangerous for you and the others?" she asked, her concern apparent. Her late husband had often warned her that dragons were not the only way to fight wars.

"Worry not," Aegon replied, his tone unwavering. "A woman will sit upon the throne. If she proves incompetent, I will do my job and set her mistakes right. We are all men under the gods. It is about time the Seven Kingdoms learn that dragons rule—not cunts and penises. Pardon my flowery language," he added with a smirk.

Without waiting for her response, he turned and left the room. Walking through the halls, he idly played with the crown in his hand. A knight hurried toward him, carrying a wooden box.

"The circlet of Aegon the First, my prince," the knight said, presenting the crown.

"Ah, the Conqueror's crown," Aegon mused, taking it reverently. He turned to the knights surrounding him, his predatory smile returning. "Now, my valiant knights, make your way to the Dragonpit. Run to your masters and have them decide your futures. Then, come witness the crowning of your queen. Perhaps, if the gods are kind, I will get to decide your futures instead."

The knights hesitated but obeyed, their unease evident. Aegon's laughter echoed through the halls as he strode toward the courtyard. The open sky came into view, and above, the giant shadow of his dragon moved in lazy figure-eights. Aegon spread his wings, leapt into the air, and with a powerful flap, took to the skies.

"History awaits, my lords!" he shouted, his voice booming as he soared, a triumphant smile on his face.
