Chapter 11: Sweeping Through the Area, Defeating the Goblin King

In Universal Descent, as you might have already seen before, monsters have weaknesses and weak points, and if a player manages to find/aim for those weak points, the damage the monster receives is doubled, tripled and sometimes they are instantly killed.

This is what happened with the [Earth Foxes] against Alex's fireballs.

And this is what was about to happen to the [Goblin Mages].

Fireball! Boom!

Alex perfectly aimed for the closest goblin mage, shooting it in the head with the fireball.

[Weakness hit, dealing 400% of initial damage!]

So the 156 points of damage he would have dealt suddenly turned into 624, destroying the mage's head and turning it into ashes.

Level: 15

HP: 480

Mages tend to have less HP than other classes, and even Alex currently only had 350 health points, as he didn't put any attributes on it.

[Please extract something!]

Though it seemed luck was on his side.

Alex couldn't help but grin, almost wanting to jump in joy if it wasn't for the fact he would alert the goblins more than he already did.

"He is dead!"

"Humans!"

"Find them and bring their heads to me!" he heard the king from afar.

Alex quickly took the spirit attribute points, then ordered Alice to shoot an arrow at another mage.

She nodded, then did just as told, her aim perfect.

Fwish! Boom!

[Weakness hit, dealing 400% of initial damage!]

It obviously died.

And so they were able to get rid of the goblin mages at the entrance, meaning that it was safe for them to go.

"Alright, here goes nothing."

The two players dashed toward the entrance of the goblin territory, alerting all the others who had found the corpses of the dead mages.

"HUMANS HERE!"

"KILL! KILL HUMANS!"

The [Goblin Warriors] were tanks with over 600 health and 52 stat points on strength, so they needed to be especially careful!

"Goblin Strike!"

One got awfully close to Alex while he was casting a few spells to kill the nearby goblins.

"ALEX!" Alice shouted in horror as she saw the monster get close, yet unable to do anything.

"…" but Alex didn't seem affected at all, not even bothering to activate [Earth Shield], instead he just turned around and placed his [Horned Staff] horizontally in front of the blade, actually blocking it.

"What?" the goblin was surprised, but Alex immediately pierced its head with the staff's horned edge, killing it instantly.

[Direct hit to head, dealing 1000% of damage]

Alex had gained a ton of strength from defeating those goblins before and acquiring their stats, and so his strength stat reached 82 points before he even realized it, meaning that he was essentially stronger than those things.

He repeated that process several times, taking the [Goblin Warriors] in close combat as their armors and high magic resistance made it too hard to do magic damage to them, and so all Alex did was aim for their exposed necks.

The mages on the other hand tried to hit him with their spells, but his [Earth Shield] would easily tank most of the attacks.

He hadn't been this strong at this point while being a warrior in his past life, so it was a blessing!

"Wow!" Alice was baffled, she never imagined to see a mage that was good in close combat.

And it wasn't even about his stat points: even without them, Alex avoided the attacks and blocked them with such flow and precision it almost looked like he had years of experience.

Thirty minutes passed, and all the warriors and mages were defeated.

Ding! Ding!

His skills leveled up by one level, and he also reached level 8.

[Fireball Level 6; Deal 150 points of damage to target + 100% of spirit to target; consumes 10 mana; 3-second cooldown.]

[Red Crystal Level 5; Deals exactly 200 damage to target; consumes 15 mana; 5-second cooldown.]

[Rock Throw Level 3; create a small ball of rock that you can throw at enemy dealing 350 damage, chance of stunning; consumes 20 mana; 3-second cooldown]

[Earth Shield Level 2; create an earth shield that can block up to 400 damage at once; costs 50 mana; one-minute cooldown.]

In addition to that, he acquired 48 additional spirit stat points from the mages, and 34 vitality from the warriors.

[Attributes:] Vitality 69; Strength 82; Agility 67; Spirit 116.

His attributes were already beginning to look way better than before too, though he wished he could upgrade his talent already.

"Humans," and of course, eliminating the dozens of goblins in their surroundings meant that the only one left was the king.

"Oh?"

"Boss!"

HP: 2000

That thing had a high amount of health, and lets not talk about his strength and agility.

"Shit shit shit shit," Alice panicked and instinctively threw an arrow at it, but the king just blocked it using his palm.

He was massive, much bigger than most of the goblins and even slightly taller than Alex.

On his head was a crown that glowed with a golden aura, and he didn't seem to have any weapons.

But even then.

Goblin Charge!

The goblin king saw all its kins dead on the ground, and his blood boiled, all his thoughts filled with the idea of killing the humans before it.

Fwish!

"AH-!" Alice was too slow, and she couldn't even react that the king was already in front of her, his charge strong and fast enough to one shot her.

"NOT TODAY!" but Alex was confident, and so he placed himself in front of the charge, activating [Earth Shield].

With the level up, his shield could now tank up to 400 points of damage.

But even with that…

Crack! Boom!

The shield shattered, and though he stopped the king's momentum, Alex was sent flying toward a nearby tree, crashing onto it and receiving 200 points of damage.

This meant that this thing could deal more than 400 damage per attack!

"A-ALEX!" Alice panicked again as she knew it was her fault, and so the king took advantage of that and lifted his hands behind her, ready to smash her to bits.

But of course, the mage wouldn't let it.

Fireball! Red Crystal! Rock Throw!

Boom! Boom! Boom!

It was an actual triple headshot hit!

Ding!

[Weakness hit, dealing 300% of damage!]

-798! -600! -1050!

Let's just say, the king didn't survive this, and his eyes widened as he fell.

'Is this human… a beginner mage?' he thought, his body crashing onto the ground and bleeding out.

Alex sighed as he approached the corpse of the king, making sure it was dead, then helped Alice to move as her legs were trembling.

"…Thanks," she mumbled, blushing, she couldn't believe that Alex actually managed to win in a single attack!

Well, not really an attack, but he got rid of the boss in such a short amount of time it was scary to think about.

[Killed Goblin King Elite Boss, gained 120 experience points!]

And of course, the experience was split into two, which Alice felt bad about since she had been useless, as other than annoying Alex, she hadn't done anything.

Yet Alex actually didn't even seem to mind that much.
