Name ? [3]

"My name... is Yang."

"Good, and this?" I asked holding up a bowl of water.

"This is... water," Yang replied.

"And this?" I asked while holding some meat, getting enthusiastic. "Moo meat," enthusiasm killed successfully.

She has been getting better and better in the last couple of weeks. She can form some very simple sentences and introduce herself, which is actually good progress.

Yu is out getting more tea and herbs. I won't lie, the lack of complaining was a peaceful change. Somehow though, I always end with someone that complains a lot.

Gilgamesh, Stheno, and Euryale all complained a lot.

"Don't worry, Yang, you'll get the hang of this," I said as I pat her head while avoiding her horns.

The girl nodded and took the meat I was holding. She gave a really faint smile which made me happy. Her usually dead expression was starting to break every now and then.

At first, she was just showing moments of frustration, courtesy of Yu's 'teaching methods'. She wasn't overly harsh or too demanding, but Yang found it frustrating that she only gets meat AFTER doing what she's told.

She started showing smaller signs of emotions over time. She gives very faint smiles whenever she gets 'rewarded and started to show preferences beyond just 'meat' and 'drinky stuff'.

"Alright, it's we're done today. Go to sleep now," I instructed as Yang yawned after finishing her meal.

She rubbed her eyes and went to the bed - Yu's bed - and hopped on it before closing her eyes. I turned to my fire element and lit up the campfire we prepared in the cave.

Yu came back just as I turned back to my wood element. "The brat is sleeping in my bed again," she groaned as she dropped the bag she was holding.

"Hey, give her a break. There isn't any other bed around," I commented while creating a wooden chair for myself and sitting on it. "Yeah, well you'll have to make one for her sooner or later."

"We don't even need to sleep as Elementals," I commented.

"Humans don't need to drink wine, yet that doesn't stop them from enjoying it," Yu replied.

Okay, she got me there. "She's been getting better," I said as I looked at Yang's sleeping form.

"Really? Was it the fact she actually says 'water" instead of 'drinky stuff that gave that away?" Yu deadpanned at me.

"Thank you for letting us stay here," I said as I looked back at the other Elemental.

Yu raised an eyebrow at me. "Why did you stay here anyway? You can easily make yourself a place to stay away from humans."

"Because... I really would like help in this," I looked down and joined my hands. "I... took care of someone before, but they were actually more there for training rather than being raised. Yang... she needs actual help. Not just physically but emotionally. I never really... dealt with something like this. So, I wanted to have someone around just in case. And, considering how long you've been alive, I figured you would know a thing or two."

Yu sighed and looked over at Yang. "You know... I might be able to find her parents."

"What?"

"There's this group called 'Summit Court'. It is a collection of Elementals that study philosophical mage-craft. They offered me an invitation to join them but I turned it down. They weren't my type of people and I have no interest of spending all my free time looking at books. Anyway, they most likely keep tracks of any foreign mystics that visit the land, like the brat's mother. So, I might be able to find her if we ask them," Yu explained.

"That's the first I heard of it," I stated before tilting my head. "Wouldn't they ask for some form of compensation?"

"I can give them information on you. Elementals like them who spend time studying would give a lot in exchange for information on Archtype Earth," Yu replied, her red eyes looking at me.

I looked at the fire for a few moments before shaking my head. "That's not really necessary OR a good idea. Knowing her mother, whoever her father is must be dead and the mother herself is not really worth meeting. She probably won't even know who Yang is."

"Is that something Gaia told you as her 'favourite'?"

She asked while raising an eyebrow.

I shrugged. "Who knows."

Hey eyebrow twitched.

Yu stood from her seat and went to a table.

She pulled out a scroll from under it and began reading.

I just sat there looking at the fire. Honestly, I had nothing to do and I literally can't feel time.

I should actually ask Yu to help me with that. She should know how to.

The sun began rising not long- at least by my standards - after that. Yang began stirring in her sleep before waking up and looking around while rubbing her eyes.

"Good morning," I greeted as I held a bowl of water for her.

Yang looked at the bowl. She turned her gaze to me, opened her mouth and-

"Zack."

I completely froze and even Yu looked with some measure of surprise.

Yang raised her hand and pointed at me. "Your name... is Zack," she then pointed at herself, "My name... is Yang."

... Yup, this kid was definitely making progress.
