Chapter 25: New Beginnings and Goodbyes

May was over, and June brought new possibilities and collaborations for U.S. Special Forces. DEVGRU, with its history of success and expertise, had established a strategic partnership with S.H.I.E.L.D. The operations planned for the month involved Bravo Team providing critical support for highly sensitive missions conducted by S.H.I.E.L.D.

On a bright and promising morning, Bravo Team prepared for a joint mission with S.H.I.E.L.D. "Of course, Natasha. What do you have in mind?" Natasha paused, ensuring that they were in a private space and away from distractions.

"Have you ever considered joining S.H.I.E.L.D.?" Natasha asked directly. "With your background and the sensitive operations you've participated in, you would enter as a Level 8 specialist. Your experience, especially on the Abotabbad mission, makes you an ideal candidate."

Grant was surprised by the proposal, his thoughts quickly returning to his past life as David Blake and his current life as Grant Ward. He recalled the challenges and achievements that had marked his career at DEVGRU and pondered the significance of this offer.

"It's a considerable offer," Grant replied, his tone reflecting a mix of thoughtfulness and apprehension. "I need some time to think about it. It's a significant change."

Natasha smiled, understanding the gravity of the decision.

"I understand. Take your time, Grant. The opportunity is in your hands."

The mission with S.H.I.E.L.D. proceeded without incident, with Bravo Team executing its part with precision and efficiency. During the operation, Grant distinguished himself once again, applying his vast experience and skills acquired over the years. "Of course, Grant. What do you have in mind?"

Grant took a deep breath, choosing his words carefully.

"After 11 years in the Navy and DEVGRU, I have decided it is time for me to pursue a new path. I have received an offer from S.H.I.E.L.D. to join them as a Level 8 Specialist. It is an opportunity that I consider valuable and I would like to retire from DEVGRU and the Navy to accept this offer."

His superior was silent for a moment, processing the news. Finally, he stood and offered a firm handshake and an admiring smile.

"Grant, you have done an exceptional job here. Your dedication and skill have always been evident. If you believe this is the right direction for your future, then I support your decision. S.H.I.E.L.D. will have an excellent professional with you on board."

Grant thanked them for their understanding and support, knowing that the move would be a big step in his professional and personal life.

Word of Grant's retirement spread quickly among the members of Bravo Team and DEVGRU command. A farewell ceremony was held to recognize the honor.

The atmosphere at the ceremony was charged with a sense of camaraderie and respect. Bravo team members, friends, and colleagues gathered to pay tribute to Grant. The ceremony was held in a conference room at Dam Neck, DEVGRU headquarters, decorated with flags and unit emblems.

The DEVGRU commander opened the ceremony with a speech of appreciation.

"Today, we are here to celebrate the career of a man who not only exemplifies the spirit of DEVGRU, but who also demonstrated unparalleled dedication to service. Master Chief Grant Ward was a pillar of strength and skill for our team. His contributions were crucial in many operations, and his legacy here will long be remembered."

With the ceremony complete and farewells said, Grant Ward was ready to transition to S.H.I.E.L.D.
