Cheat Death

We all watched as the Rein turned around and walked out of the rooftop room. He seemed cool and composed, but I knew differently. He and the Prophet might be different species, but they reacted to everything the same way.

And I had just put a giant wrench into his plans to bring Ba'dqeel down.

"Well," grunted Pure as the ministers in the Rein's delegation quickly filed out after him. "That was a pleasant conversation. Do you want to tell us what it is all about?"

"The Gods are angry," said the Priest, his lyrical words washing over all of us. I expected to see my males shivering, reacting in some way to his voice, but they stayed strong, their heads held high as he and his clergymen approached me. "They are punishing your people and this planet. It will be only a matter of moon cycles before everything falls, and there is nothing left of you, your people, or your planet."
