Chapter 9: Train to Busan(Part 5)

I stepped off the train, and everyone slowly made their way out. Just as we were about to move, the ground stated to shake i looked towards the thing that was causing these vibrations a flaming train was comming barreling toward us, out of control.

"Fuck, I don't remember anything like this happening. The guide didn't warn me about it either. Damn it," I thought.

"Everyone, run!" I shouted

Snapping out of their trance, everyone scattered. Most of us made it, but some were left behind—either too afraid to cross or struck by the train. The rest of us managed to escape before the flaming train collapsed.

After crossing the tracks and watching the flaming wreckage, I shouted, "What are you gawking at? Run! I can see the glass breaking. Everyone who can fight, at the back. The rest, keep running."

Hearing my instructions, those who could fight moved to the back. Some, however, hesitated. As they started moving we matched the pace of the others running towards the other train. Suddenly, a loud screech pierced the air.I saw hundreds of zombies erupting from the train, shattering the glass window and spilling out from the sides like a flood of death. Among them some non infected people were also approaching us who probably survived the flaming train.

Seeing them, I readied my gun. The people who were supposed to run sprinted with all their might towards the train. They had moved quite far from us. We were eight fighters standing our ground, including me—Ma Dong, Seok-Woo, Min Yong-Guk, his friends, the homeless man, the radio operator, and a few others. The remaining 25 survivors ran toward the train. We held our ground, protecting the people coming toward us from the flaming train and the horde of zombies behind them. When they reached us, I glanced over them for any potential bite marks. Sadly, one was infected. I saw a bite mark on his arm, and he was trying to hide it. The rest were clear; they had somehow survived the zombie horde. Once they were past us, I aimed my gun at the infected person, took a deep breath, and pulled the trigger. A bang echoed through the chaos, and the sound was perfectly audible despite the clamor. Everyone looked at me. I focused my attention on the approaching zombies and said slowly, "He was infected." We then retreated toward the train while continuing to fire at the zombies.

We were in the thick of it. The sheer number of zombies pouring out of the train was overwhelming. The screeching and growling filled the air as the undead surged toward us, their decaying bodies moving with unnatural speed.

The initial blast of gunfire from our two long-range fighters did little to slow the tide. Bullets tore through the closest zombies, but the relentless horde surged forward, indifferent to their losses.

The two of us with firearms—myself and Ma Dong—were crucial in holding back the tide of zombies that surged towards us.

Our weapon were a semi-automatic pistol, less powerful but still deadly in skilled hands. I aimed carefully, squeezing off shots one by one. The pistol's report was thunderous, it cut through the noise of the battlefield. We focused on the closest zombies, taking advantage of their proximity to maximize the effectiveness of each shot.

The frantic pace meant not every shot hit its mark. The zombies moved unpredictably, shuffling and stumbling in their twisted forms. Occasionally, my shots went wide, hitting empty space or grazing the crowd.

Zombies that got past our initial volley were met with the desperate defense of our melee fighters. The fight was a brutal mixture of gunfire and hand-to-hand combat. Each moment was a desperate struggle for survival.Ma Dong and I fired as fast as we could, the heat of the battle intensifying as we worked to keep the advancing horde at bay. Sweat dripped from our brows, our hands trembling with the strain of continuous firing. With us continuing to retreate towards the train.

Despite our best efforts, some zombies got close, forcing us to engage in close-quarters combat with our melee weapons. The fight was a brutal mixture of gunfire and hand-to-hand combat, and each moment was a desperate struggle for survival.

Breathing heavily, Ma Dong and I quickly assessed the situation. We had managed to halt the advance of the zombies, but the relentless swarm still loomed in the distance. Our ammunition was dwindling, and the fight was far from over. We needed to retreat to the train, and fast.

With the survivors making their way to the train, It was time to run back to the train.

"It's time to run to the train!" I shouted over the sound of gunfire and groans. The survivors, already on edge, nodded, and we began our desperate sprint towards the train.

The horde of zombies was still relentless, their moans growing louder as they followed our every move. Ma Dong and I continued to fire off the last of our rounds, aiming for the closest zombies to buy ourselves a bit more time. Each shot was a gamble, every bullet a precious resource that could mean the difference between life and death.

We dashed across the open ground, the train now looming closer. As we approached, the sound of the engine was a welcome roar, its power vibrating through the metal. We reached the train just as it began to move. The train's momentum provided a small barrier between us and the encroaching zombies.

Ma Dong and I led the charge, pushing through the survivors who were scrambling to get on. We kept our firearms ready, glancing over our shoulders to ward off any zombies that got too close.

With us secure and the train now moving at a steady pace, we took a moment to catch our breath. The immediate danger was now behind us.

I looked back at the zombies still chasing us, checked my gun, and removed the magazine. There was only one bullet left. I aimed at the pursuing zombies, fired the final shot, and that found its mark in a zombie's head, simultaneously taking down him and tripping more of them. This was the end. The end of the line.

Finally this arc is almost at its end.
