(Rhaegon's POV)
"Wake up, Rhaegon." I heard a voice call for me
I opened my eyes, "Hm?" I said
I looked to my side to see Nymeria sitting on the edge of the bed, putting on one of my shirts, which was way too oversized for her.
She looked at me, "We're late for breakfast." She told me with a smile
"Mm..." I said as I looked to my other side and saw that the bed was empty, "And the others?"
"They're already eating, I believe." she said
I reached over for her arm, pulling her to me, "Is that so?" I said, "Let's stay here for a bit more then."
She chuckled, "No." She said, "They already think I'm your favorite, we can't have the two be too jealous."
I caressed her cheek, "Maybe you are." I said with a slight smile
"Let's go and eat." She said
I nodded, "Fine." I said as I sat up, "Let's go."
She pulled away and got off the bed, walking over to the door.
It's been a few weeks since I've settled into Summerhall, Mother had spent the first week here but eventually returned home. I've had Monica visit once in a while within the weeks but other than that, she writes to me every day.
The servants here treat the Sand Snakes with a degree of respect but they're still unaccustomed to the situation. They're so used to the castle being nearly empty and without a Prince, only dealing with Lord Dondarrion as Castellan, but now that I'm here, it's going to be a bit difficult to get used to.
I told the Sand Snakes that they could invite their Father or Ellaria whenever they wish to, they're always welcome here. But Oberyn is currently busy at Dorne, he had returned there after being invited to Court by the King. There's some stuff going on at the Stepstones that requires his presence in his home.
I don't understand how this conflict is a thing; the Stepstones are controlled by the Triarchy and they're on good terms with the Crown. The Trading Treaty was placed a few years ago had helped both parties to prosper greatly. And with the help of dragons, the crown was able to keep the unruly side of the Triarchy from extorting the merchant ships that passed through.
I got off the bed and began to stretch, "Okay then...." I said as my stomach grumbled, "Let's go eat...."
I don't know what my role is in this conflict, aside from being the muscle; being Morghul's rider and all. I'm not that politically astute and Uncle Rhaegar knows that. Perhaps he intends to teach me things, or at least Father. But Father isn't the most political one either; we have that in common. I guess we're both born warriors.
The King is the one that does the ruling and Uncle Rhaegar has kept the Realm stable for as long as he could.
Now there's a pretender across the sea with a Great Dothraki Horde being led by a massive black dragon. They intend to cross the sea and invade Westeros and there's only so much we could do to prepare. I've thought of a few contingencies to keep the Dothraki from crossing, but I need the King's Leave to fly to the Stepstones and burn a couple of dozen Golden Company ships.
Either way, it doesn't matter, I've been ordered to stay put for the time being.
If War breaks out, there is no turning back;
Everything will burn.
*******************************************
"What happened in that hot part of the castle?" Obara asked as we sat down and looked up at the night sky
We were outside Summerhall, underneath a tree next to the pond, sitting down as the three were nuzzled up to me. I had Obara on my right while Nymeria was on my left, leaning their heads on my shoulder as Tyene was asleep, leaning against my stomach while she sat between my legs.
I was looking at the castle, which was across from us, the sight of the most important location in recent history.
"You don't know?" I asked her
She shook her head, "No."
"Father told us that something happened in Summerhall." Nymeria said, "We didn't pay much attention. A King died, apparently."
"Aegon V." I said, "He started a fire ritual and brought the dragons back. You know, this is the place that King Rhaegar was born, right? The entirety of the Targaryen Family back then was here while The Unlikely attempted to bring our Dynasty back."
"A Fire Ritual? What kind of madman does that indoors?" Obara asked
"Well, him, I guess." I said with a chuckle
"He died, I assume?" Nymeria asked, "Aegon V, that is."
I nodded, "Yes." I said, "Clearly, I wasn't there and my uncle was barely born but according to what they say, the Fire Ritual took him, flesh and bone whole as it burned the entire room. His son and the Lord-Commander of the Kingsguard were caught in the fire, debris falling on them. They eventually died as well. I believe Ser Duncan took the dragon eggs out of the room due to King Aegon's final orders before death."
"What?" Obara said, "The Dragons didn't hatch?"
I shook my head, "Not at that moment." I said before pointing at a spot across the pond near the castle, "They hatched right over there, you see there's a slightly charred spot in the grass? After nearly forty years, the grass never recovered from it."
"Oh." She said, "But they hatched the same night?"
I nodded, "Yes." I said, "Prince Duncan The Small died and later on, Ser Duncan The Tall died of his wounds. If it weren't for Ser Duncan, we don't know if we'd witness the hatching of Sundancer and Arraxes."
"There were two eggs, then?" Nymeria asked
I shook my head, "No, three." I said, "A golden one, a silver one, and a black one. Sundancer, my grandfather's dragon, hatched first and Arraxes, my uncle's, hatched a few minutes later."
"And the third one?" She asked
I nodded to our right, off into the far distance, Morghul lay in the field, sleeping peacefully.
"Morghul?" Obara asked, "Didn't he hatch when you were born?"
"He did." I said, "But his egg was of the original three. My Mother claims it was fate that we were born on the same day."
"Targaryens and their dragons, such a complex history." Nymeria chuckled
"I know." I said
"My Uncle always talks about the Bronze Dragonlord and the vicious Dragon he rode." Nymeria said, "We found it boring and we ignored it."
"Aerion Targaryen, rider of Vermithor, the Bronze Fury." I said as I looked up
"What do you know of him?" Obara asked
"Not much more than you." I said with a smile, "I ought to read into history more."
"I have a question." Nymeria asked, "All these lands....these titles you're suddenly getting...."
I looked at her, "What is it?" I asked
"Should we have a child with you..." she said, "Will they inherit it?"
I sighed, "I don't think so." I said truthfully, "We've been over it, they'd be Storm."
"Surely you can pull some strings, right?" Nymeria said with a slight smile
"Bastards can reach high in the world." Obara said with a chuckle, "Look at us, we are in a fancy castle with a Dragonrider on our beds every night."
"Hm..." I said as I leaned back against the tree, "You're thinking too much ahead. Let's enjoy the moment for now."
"There's a war in the horizon." Nymeria said, "I worry that we won't get to enjoy you that much."
I looked at her, "You will." I said, "Don't worry about that."
"You'll enjoy every second of it."
