The assassin didn't breath, he remained still as if he had became a corpse. He was like a rock in the marshy plain and he seemed to have became one with the marshy plain. Even when a worm slithered on his face as it searched for an orifice that it could hide in, the assassin didn't shake when he saw the worm approaching the opening of his nose.
The rain drops dripped on the still body of the assassin and the muddy water that had gathered around him moved undulatingly when the rain drops fall on it. The undulating motion was not caused by the assassin but by the falling rain drops.
Time ticked and the assassin's eyes popped out as he continued to watch the worm nearing the opening of his nose, though he was calm and still on the outside, in the inside, he was tense and uncertain.
On the other hand, the knight failed to see any anomaly on the marshy plain where the sound had came from and he ignored it while thinking that maybe, the sound that he had heard came from the warehouse where the tools and the steel components had been kept. As well, he might just be hearing his own things for not sleeping well.
"I was just being paranoid for nothing. Phew!" The knight heaved a sigh before he returned the torch to its port on the wall of the warehouse so that it would not be extinguished by the light showers.
"I am saved." The assassin finally moved when he saw through the corner of his eyes that the knight had stopped staring at where he was. He stretched his hand slowly and smoothly like an eel and picked up the worm that was moving what looked like its head close to the opening of his nose.
Disgusted, the assassin crushed the worm into a green puddle that was quickly washed out of his palm by the drizzle and then, he spat aside a mouthful of spittle in a soft motion that was barely audible.
He glared at the knight that was the cause of his agitation and then he stretched his arm slowly and sank his fingers slightly into the mud. With a swift motion, the assassin dislodged the metal spike from the cover of the mud as it was almost sinking into the mud after being covered by the stagnant water.
Gripping the metal spike with his teeth, the assassin squirming forward quickly.
He was almost closer to the knight and he could clearly depict his whole frame as opposed to where he was in the marsh where he could only see the knight's torso and the head. After all, the rest of the knight's body was obscured by the outgrowths and the unevenness of the marshy plain that stood in front of the assassin's vision.
The assassin finally stood up and right at that moment, the knight who was facing the other side abruptly turned behind him only to be faced with a man who was covered by the mud from head to toe. This man wore tattered clothing, he was barefooted and his hair which was muddy was disheveled.
The assassin cursed in his mind and he didn't dare to slacken or give the knight even a single second. He jumped onto the back of the disoriented knight and clutched his throat between his helm and the shoulder pads of his armour.
The knight didn't make a sound because the assassin made sure to muffle his voice by forcing him to swallow several stones and while the knight was swallowing, he was also trying to get himself out the of the clutch of the assassin but the assassin couldn't let it go. His legs were firmly attached to the knight's waist and his arms firmly squeezing the knight's neck.
Finally, when the knight was about to fall down, the assassin hastily searched for a minor space between the chest plates of the knight's armour before he took the metal spike out of the grip of his teeth and stabbed the knight's chest several times where the knight's heart lay.
The knight could only release soft whimpers as his soul left his body. The face of the knight still had that confused and unyielding look.
