The Siren Home

Chapter 7

Meredith found it impossible to relax and enjoy the chit-chat like the others while they discussed their special outifts for the day. As she settled into the bathtub, her mind kept drifting back to her sister's warnings about their uncle. If only she and her mother had heeded Zarah's advice. If only. Now, the possibility of ever seeing them again seemed uncertain, and fresh tears welled up in her eyes as she contemplated the painful reality of her existence. It was her own flesh and blood that had led her to this bizarre place. Her own father's brother!

A stern voice echoed through a device in the ceiling, jolting the girls from their momentary escape. "Girls, you have 10 more minutes to get out of the hot room and get dressed before our guests arrive," the nun's voice carried a tone of annoyance. Panic swept through the girls still in the tub; they hastily rinsed and rushed out, fear etched on their faces as they dried off with pink towels hanging nearby. Meredith, wiping away her tears, joined them in their frantic effort to clean up.

The bathroom door, or "hot room" as the nun referred to it, swung open promptly, and the girls obediently filed out, almost as if they were being controlled remotely. No one exchanged a word as they stepped into the vast room beyond.

"Good girls… you have thirty minutes to get dressed. Remember how you dress can determine what kind of client you would end up with. Be creative and have fun. And remember time is ticking," the nun's instructions were met with giggles as the girls dispersed to their respective wardrobes, each selecting beautiful costumes. Meredith stood bewildered in the center of the room, contemplating which direction to take. Valerie and Victoria, both in front of their wardrobes, smiled at their reflections in the mirrors as they began to choose their attire.

"What do I do now?" Meredith turned to Valerie for guidance, her voice filled with uncertainty.

However, it was Victoria who responded, her tone sharp and impatient. "Get dressed, of course."

"But I…" Meredith started to mutter, but her words were drowned out as Valerie and Victoria engaged in a discussion about their outfit choices.

"This time, I'm going to be the Prize of the Home. The most wanted girl and Maybe I'll finally…" Valerie trailed off, her voice barely a whisper, unable to voice her desire for freedom out loud.

Meredith yearned to eavesdrop on their conversation but was afraid of feeling excluded. Niki continued playing with her knife, and Meredith didn't want to be alone with the enigmatic girl. Remembering the nun's comment about her wardrobe having a prominent 'M,' she hurried over and cautiously opened the door. The clothes inside were exceedingly skimpy—far too revealing for her comfort.

"No," she whispered to herself, tears threatening to well up again. But no one paid her any attention, not even her newfound friends, who were all engrossed in lively discussions while donning stylish stockings, short skirts, and tiny tops, then applying makeup. Did she have any other choice? Resignedly, she accepted her fate and selected the most modest clothing she could find in her wardrobe.

The attire she wore was far from modest. Her youthful breasts still peeked out from the tiny pink top, and her slim, long thighs were visible beneath the white scarf-like skirt. She did her best to adjust the clothing to cover her body as they made their way to the Special Room, where they would await the so-called clients. How had her life come to this? She screamed silently within herself as they entered a spacious hall adorned with blinking lights reminiscent of a nightclub. Below the Special Room, there was a grand stage bathed in light. Meredith joined the other girls on the plush cushions, her eyes unable to stop wandering around the strange yet captivating place, her heart pounding with anticipation.

"Cheer up! This is always the best part of being here. Very soon, our guests will come through that door, and the lucky girl will leave with the wealthiest man. And if you're fortunate, you might find the man who'll set you free," Valerie exclaimed with enthusiasm.

"But that hardly ever happens. There's no real life here for any of us. They make sure we stay here so that no one on the outside…" Victoria's words were abruptly cut off by Valerie, who intervened to prevent Victoria from revealing the grim reality of the fantasy world they were trapped in. However, Meredith had been eager to hear the truth because she was determined to find a way out and make her uncle and the owners of the Siren Home face the consequences.

She observed her two new friends; they seemed content to be here, but Meredith knew it was all a façade. They weren't truly happy. Her gaze shifted from one girl to the next. Valerie was dressed provocatively, resembling a seductive Chinese princess, while Victoria had the appearance of a charming catwoman. And she, herself? What was she dressed as? How was any of this even remotely acceptable? How were the owners able to keep all these beautiful girls locked up in here? There were more than fifty of them, yet it seemed like no one could come to their rescue.

"Shh… this is the best part. The Prize of the Home. The most sought-after girl in this place, among all these beautiful girls! Just think about the kind of attention she receives. She's the only one with a whole room to herself and gets to experience the outside world with her client by her side. I'd give anything to finally have the sort of attention she gets," Valerie chimed in with enthusiasm. Meredith looked at her with a mixture of pity and disdain, wondering how someone could be so deeply immersed in this disgraceful life.

"I know what you want to say, but don't say it! Life here is different, and soon enough, I know you'll be vying to become the most precious jewel in the Siren Home," Valerie cautioned.

"I won't! I will never accept such a degrading existence!" Meredith declared firmly.

"Shhh… you girls! It's time for her to be revealed."

Silence enveloped the room as slow music began to play softly in the background. The entire club was suddenly bathed in light, and Meredith realized that their fellow girls had already arrived. However, all eyes were fixated on the girl standing on the stage, her body partially exposed. Only a scanty garment covered her bosom. The men erupted in applause as she started moving sensually and singing.

Meredith watched in silence as the men reveled in cheers and applause for the girl on stage, her voice resonating through the room. She hoped fervently that this would never be her destiny. As the lady continued to dance, she glanced up towards the area where the girls were sitting, and that's when Meredith saw her face. It was Mercy! The same Irene had been accused of causing her death was right here in the Siren Home. She looked so different with her well-highlighted face and permed hair that made her look older and more attractive.

Mercy recognized her instantly, and tears welled up in her eyes. She desperately tried to halt their flow, but the tears refused to be suppressed, and the men in the audience, who had been watching eagerly, suddenly grew restless. They murmured angrily and for q moment Meredith was scared they would attack Mercy.

The spotlight at the center of the stage swiftly extinguished, plunging the room into darkness. In the obscurity, Meredith could discern a girl being forcibly dragged away, her cries of distress filling the room.

"What just happened?" she inquired, addressing no one in particular.

"She messed up, and now her position is up for grabs. I wonder who the lucky girl will be," Valerie replied with excitement.

"Didn't you see her crying? How could you hope for that fate for yourself? How? Aren't any of you concerned about condemning yourselves to this existence?" Meredith's voice rose in frustration.

"Shut up already! You are beginning to get on my nerves" Valerie retorted.
