Talking with the Doctor

On the rooftop of the center, Dominic was looking beyond the metal fences that protected this place. When he heard the door behind him open, he immediately said, "I didn't expect to see you so soon. I thought you wouldn't come."

Bethany hadn't rested all day, and now this new information she had obtained left her very puzzled. "Where did you get this information?"

"What do you mean?" Dominic didn't immediately admit that the information in that memory was from him.

"Weren't you expecting me?" Bethany didn't understand Dominic's sense of humor, so she frowned in annoyance.

"Don't you find it curious where the future is leading us? You should have noticed a long time ago; there's no control here, miss." Dominic walked towards the doctor, who was very talented in the medical field.

"Where did you get this information?"

"That's just the tip of what awaits us in the future, so listen carefully. Will you join my new coalition? This base is lost; with the Cobalt order, the higher-ups have sentenced the army. It's funny; they forgot that soldiers are humans." Dominic looked down just to see helicopters descending materials and equipment.

"Who are you, really?"

Dominic looked up and said, "The commander of this base. Everything here belongs to me, and that won't change. That's why I'm asking you, Are you with me or with a government that has lost the chain of command?"

When Dominic saw doubt in Bethany's face, who wanted to escape, he smiled and said, "I wouldn't do that."

"I won't be part of this." Bethany ran towards the door, and when she saw two soldiers coming out, she immediately ordered, "Arrest that man for treason; his intentions can jeopardize the command of this base."

One of the soldiers looked at Dominic and asked, "What do we do with her, sir?"

"How?" Bethany stepped back when she knew that these people were now with Dominic. She couldn't understand how he could achieve something like that.

"The U.S. Army is such a war machine that it won't withstand the lack of its usual resources that they've always had at their disposal. This will cause the chain of command to split into small groups that will eventually become obsolete."

Dominic walked towards Bethany and, without showing hostility, said, "Medications have started to be delayed. How long do you think we'll last before something breaks due to the bad decisions of the pig leading this place?"

"What we're doing is wrong, and we'll change that. You know how? By rescuing the families of all these soldiers and ensuring a secure future that must be worked for, Dominic said, completely changing his personality.

"Those variants in the video..." Bethany was talking about other types of infections.

Dominic understood and nodded. "We've encountered variants; they are more dangerous but not lethal. Doctor, I want to save as many people as I can, and that's why I'll need your help. Do you have any family members who need to be saved?"

"No."

"Then help me save all these people. Without my guidance, most likely, they will die." Dominic handed her another USB drive and said, "These are the precautions we must take, how walkers behave, and how to kill them, of course."

"What if your plan fails?" Bethany asked a very important question.

"Then we'll die. If my plans have no future, that's the path that awaits us. Help me take control of this place; I promise I won't spare resources to help valuable people."

Bethany knew that many soldiers were upset with Major Moyers' orders; they were all even thinking of abandoning their duties to go look for their families.

"What do you need from a doctor?" Bethany asked, not understanding.

"I want you to ask questions. Ask every soldier about their families, and we'll see if they can be saved or not." Dominic walked back to the door, and the soldiers who were helping him had just communicated with their families a few moments ago.

All of them would now follow Dominic's orders, who seemed to understand better than anyone what awaited them all.

"Do you have the resources to save them?"

"And also to eliminate them if they become a problem. But of course, you'll take care of that." Dominic said before leaving.

The ambitious plan he had now was to control all of Los Angeles; as long as he had control of this important place, he would not only control the sea but also many more possibilities in the future.

The food that can be extracted from evil is as gigantic as the amount needed to eat; besides, there were many ships and submarines that would eventually return to the things when their food ran out.

As the situation stands, Dominic knew that it wouldn't hurt to have a few ships at his disposal. The best thing he could do now was to have control; only in this way would his influence become as great as that of other organizations in the country.

These thoughts, of course, were only reserved for Dominic; if anyone else knew, they would truly fear how far the ambitions of a simple teenager could go.

...

"Zz. Team one moving, no enemy mishaps."

Stuart watched as containers with weapons and trucks full of armored vehicles were carefully parked in the huge football field and nodded with satisfaction. Of all the families he had been tasked with bringing to the base, none had been lost.

Everything had gone well, and from what he could see, there were more families from the area that needed to be saved. Additionally, many survivors had requested asylum, something they couldn't deny.

"How many are sick?" Stuart, who was monitoring, asked with interest.

Stuart's assistant, named Derek, shook his head. "None so far, but sir, I have a question."

"Ask what bothers you." Stuart, of course, expected something.

"Is it really necessary to follow the orders of someone we don't know?" Derek didn't understand why they were still following the orders of complete strangers.

Stuart understood this, so he said, "Can you look at that group of Mexicans and Colombians? They are under Antonio's orders, and that man seems to know our boss. From what I can see, as long as there's a desire to rebel, they would kill him without hesitation."

"But boss, they are civilians..."

"It may be, but have you seen the systems where our families are housed? The container area is locked with codes that only that man has; if we try to open them, everything would explode, and we would lose the advantage we have in terms of the general situation."

Stuart paused and asked, "Why not follow the orders of someone who saved us and takes care of our families? I am infinitely grateful to him; besides, I think I know what that man is looking for now."

"What is it?"

"To control Los Angeles."
