Ch 27: Kill the mother [pt2]

The larger brood attacked first.

The spider-like monsters were fast, and their eight hairy legs caused Soma some difficulty telling which one they were.

He tried to freeze them, but the hair-like projections on the legs of these creatures did not allow that to happen.

[Hell fire has been used.]

Blue-black flames covered the vast expanse of the room and tried to burn these creatures, but they did not flinch.

Their thin legs helped these monsters maneuver safely through the fire and ice.

When Soma killed one of these monsters, two more appeared to take their place. There was no end to these monsters in sight.

It was clear that the first step toward clearing this level was to clear out the mother spider.

Since neither fire nor ice seemed to work, Soma had no choice but to use his technique.

He could control up to two small spiders simultaneously, but getting them to go as he wanted was tough.

The spiders he was trying to control were still alive, and they attempted to fight against his control.

Meanwhile, the rest of the spiders came after him in a heartbeat.

Their numbers were getting so overwhelming that Soma had to step out of the door and take a breath.

The spiders did not follow Soma into the previous hallway.

None of the monsters left their designated arena because the system would instantly kill them.

"I wish this were a fact I could take advantage of, but the boss monster would reset if I tried something like this. I need to come up with another solution."

The best way to fight numbers would be with numbers.

But Soma had already burned that bridge by now.

He had to find another way to get near the mother spider without being seen. But his stealth needed to be higher.

"Wait! I think I have an idea now."

Soma walked toward the previous chamber, where he had discarded the body of the huge chameleon monster.

He had killed this boss in a gruesome way, but he had still left some of its motor functions unharmed.

Soma only needed this boss to take a few steps to reach the mother spider in its camouflaged form.

"Well, this is as good a time as any…Shopkeeper, are you there?"

Soma asked, and the small fairy appeared in front of him.

It looked between Some and the giant monster before him and decided it was best not to ask questions.

"What are you looking for? I have everything in my shop you could ever need."

The fairy asked, and Soma instantly replied.

"I want spare parts and a guide to repairing this monster. I don't need high-fi, but something strong enough to start this boss's ability."

Surprise coated the fairy's face at Soma's request.

It had seen all kinds of absurd people before, but no one dared ask the fairy for repair parts for monsters.

"Excuse me…but you want what? You don't look like a necromancer, and even if you are, those classes can only use former-loving organisms as their slaves. What do you want with a machine-"

The fairy asked, but Soma only looked at it with a serene smile.

That expression warned the fairy to keep its mouth quiet and give Soma what he asked.

"You do not need to think about it. Now, hand over the kit to me since I asked for it."

Soma warned the fairy, and it instantly shut its mouth.

"Let me see. Since no one has ever asked for such a thing, I should price it at an appropriate range. Let me see…yeah, this should do."

The fairy presented Soma with the final price, and he paused as soon as he looked at it.

"This is too high. 15,000 coins for a simple kit? You are scamming me."

The fairy looked taken aback by Soma's anger.

"This is a fair price! I went as down as I could for you."

The fairy yelled back in an annoyed voice.

It hated bargaining and profit, and this deal was profit.

This guide had been in its inventory for centuries without seeing any buyer. And now, it finally had a buyer.

The fairy needed to sell it for as much as she could.

"I see. Since this guide is too costly, I do not need it. I will find another way around this."

Soma sighed before closing the shop.

The fairy's smug expression faded instantly and was replaced by panic.

"There's no need to decide this early. Just think about it! How much time and effort can you save by buying this guide? You have the means to do so and can use the extra time to earn more coins."

"Besides, the time you spend more coins will help you boost your stats. It's a win-win for everyone."

The fairy had a silver tongue that could entice anyone.

Anyone who was not as experienced as Soma was.

"Nice try, but that doesn't change the fact that your service is too expensive for something that no one else will buy but me. Continue to sit on your unused material for all I care."

The fairy realised that it had messed up.

For the first time, it had come close to selling one of the most undesirable things in its store, and it had fumbled.

"Alright, fine! How much do you think this is worth? Since you are an expert, then you give me a price for it."

The fairy demanded in a rude voice.

"5,000 coins. That's the price I am willing to pay, and even then, it feels too high."

The fairy bit its lip as soon as it heard that price.

It was too low for its liking, but it was more than zero.

So, as much as it pained the fairy to sell that material this cheaply, it had no choice but to do so.

"Fine! 5,000 coins it is. Here, take this guide off my store now."

Soma received the guide, and his smile made the fairy feel scammed.

"It was a pleasure doing business with you, little fairy. I will call you when I have another deal for you."

Soma waved the little fairy off, and the annoyed creature looked at Soma with cursing eyes.

'Looks like I will not see this fair again during the tutorial stages. I cannot believe how many of them I managed to get black-listed by.'

The fairies did not like a stingy player, and Soma was sure he had reached their blocklist by this point.

He had not committed any crime, so these fairies could not refuse to serve him, but they did not want to serve him.

That was why it was a different fairy whenever he called for one.

"Oh well, I do not need to worry about these fairies and their drama once I enter the tower…hopefully."

There was no time to waste here.

Soma used his hard-earned guide and inserted it into the broken machine before him.

It caused the machine to start moving, and Soma knew it was time to use this monster.

He hid between its jaw.

The machine could use its camouflage abilities on the outer surface of its body, so anything hidden between its joints and other parts was also hidden.

Soma tried out the machine to check how comfortable it was, and he had to admit it was uncomfortable.

But this would work if the chameleon's ability also worked on the other monsters.

...

The Turkey boss fought hard against the large group, but in the end, numbers prevailed, and the door finally opened.

Elric refused to wait a second more before running out of the door and toward the last section of the tutorial.

But the huge door was closed, and no matter how much Elric tried to break it down, he could not do that.

The tower had made this stage so that only the designated person could pass through.

"Darn it! We are all locked outside. This is not fair! Administrator, how is this fair under any scenario? It's too advantageous for the one who finds the key first!"

Elric complained, and he was not the only one with such complaints.

All the other contestants had similar dissatisfactions regarding this topic.

Even the administrator was at a loss once he noticed what happened.

He had overseen this tutorial for a long time, but this was the first time this had happened.

And, of course, the person that caused this all was the one he was trying to recruit for his guild.

He wondered if he should do something about this, but then he paused.

The system had not warned him about any illegal practice, which meant this was fine.

That made the administrator sigh in relief and confidently reply to the complaining players.

[This tutorial complies with the system's regulations. If you are dissatisfied, take your complaints up with the system.]

The players did not like this but could not say anything about it.

After all, the administrator was proper.

The tower had allowed this unfair tutorial to take place.
