Marvel Announces Long-Rumored Avengers Movie and Cast at San Diego Comic-Con

San Diego Comic-Con 2011 was nothing short of electrifying for Marvel fans, as the studio finally confirmed what had been whispered for years: The Avengers movie is officially happening. Speculation on Wonder Woman and Superman Movies + What's Next for the DCU!

Alright guys, with Wonder Woman and Superman officially announced at Comic-Con, it's pretty clear DC is going for an interconnected universe just like Marvel. I mean, the timeline and the teaser we saw for Batman Begins all but confirm they're building towards something big—Justice League is basically a given at this point. But what do you all think the plots for Wonder Woman and Superman will be? And what other movies could be next?

For Wonder Woman, they'll probably go with her origin, right? It makes sense for her first solo movie to cover how she leaves Themyscira, discovers the world of man, and becomes a hero. I'm thinking something along the lines of Wonder Woman: Year One.

For Superman, they could totally go with the Birthright storyline! That's the perfect modern origin for Supes—young Clark figuring out his place in the world, learning about his heritage, and becoming Superman. Plus, if they're going for interconnected movies, Lex Luthor's involvement would be a great way to start teasing a bigger threat in the background (cough Darkseid cough).

Yeah, Justice League is pretty much confirmed at this point. They're probably gonna release solo movies for the core members first, like The Flash, Aquaman, and Green Lantern. My bet is on Green Lantern being next after Superman, especially if they go cosmic. Maybe they'll tie it into Darkseid and Apokolips down the line.

For Wonder Woman, I think they might blend her origin with The Lies arc. That way, they can introduce the gods, but also show her more human side. And if the Justice League is on the horizon, it would be cool if the Wonder Woman movie ends with her realizing there's a bigger conflict coming, maybe involving Ares or some other villain.

I'm really hoping Superman will have a more modern take on Krypton. Superman: Birthright or Secret Origin would be ideal to show Clark's journey, and maybe they can introduce Brainiac or Metallo as the first villain, with Lex manipulating things from the shadows.

It's crazy to think we might get a Wonder Woman movie set in World War I! I bet it'll tie into some ancient artifact that the League of Shadows or Ra's al Ghul is after, connecting Batman and Wonder Woman somehow. Themyscira could have a mystical weapon hidden away, and maybe the League knows about it. That would be a cool tie-in.

I think The Flash movie has to be in the works. They could do Flash: Rebirth or maybe even Flashpoint (though that feels too early for this universe). But if they introduce Barry Allen in Justice League, they could start building toward Flashpoint later on, once they've established the whole multiverse concept.

Don't forget Green Lantern! They could introduce Hal Jordan and the Green Lantern Corps and tie it into the larger cosmic side of the DCU. Maybe we'll get hints of Darkseid or the New Gods through the Green Lantern storyline, leading up to Justice League. The Guardians of the Universe are definitely keeping an eye on Earth's heroes.

If they're setting up Justice League, the big villain has to be Darkseid, right? They could build him up over multiple movies—maybe with hints in Superman and Wonder Woman. I could see Superman's sequel bringing in Brainiac, but with the end teasing Darkseid's forces arriving on Earth. They might even mention Apokolips or the New Gods.
