Iron Fist was a relatively unknown hero, but the chi within him was a versatile power. It could amplify his attacks and serve as a defensive shield over his body. With his combat skills honed to perfection, Iron Fist turned killing into an art form of bloodshed, with each move exuding a violent beauty.
He used his fists to pierce through the chests of enemy soldiers, and before he knew it, he had fought his way to the edge of the barrier.
One soldier aimed at his chest and pulled the trigger. In a split second, a bright blue energy beam shot towards his heart. In a critical moment, Iron Fist's battle-honed instincts caused his chi to instinctively gather in his chest, neutralizing the deadly attack.
However, the tremendous kinetic force of the energy beam couldn't be fully countered by his chi. Iron Fist was thrown back like a kite with a broken string, flying straight towards the barrier set by Zane. He didn't even have time to scream before the deathly energy of the barrier disintegrated him into ashes.
At that moment, a special figure with a head three times the size of a typical Chitauri soldier, positioned in the center of the Chitauri forces, had a gleam in its eye. Instantly, all the soldiers altered their combat tactics.
Like moths to a flame, they recklessly charged towards the melee superheroes who were fighting desperately. For every enemy killed, ten more rushed forward. This fearless charge shocked everyone.
These soldiers then began dragging the overwhelmed superheroes step by step towards the barrier, resolutely throwing themselves and the heroes into the deadly field, turning them into ashes.
The Chitauri culture was unique, akin to a hive mind, where an army had only one central brain, which could control all its soldiers at will. The individual consciousness of the soldiers was secondary; once linked to the central brain, their lives and actions were no longer their own. This was the core reason behind the soldiers' sudden suicidal resolve.
Crucially, if the central brain were to die, all its connected soldiers would experience simultaneous brain death. This setup prevented the leak of this highly efficient combat technology. This is why, in the original story, when Tony carried the nuclear bomb to destroy the Chitauri mothership, all Chitauri on Earth perished at the same moment.
However, this efficient military structure also had a fatal weakness: it was highly vulnerable to decapitation tactics. Tony, hovering in the air, had already identified the central brain, heavily guarded in the middle of the forces.
Storm, soaring on gusts of wind, called down lightning, striking both Tony and the weakened Thor. The two looked like giant batteries, continuously charging with electricity.
Thor's eyes had transformed into pure lightning, and Mjolnir was crackling with bolts of electricity as thick as arms. The reactor in Tony's chest shone like a small sun, drawing the attention of everyone in the arena.
Sensing the high-energy reactions, the Chitauri army's central brain immediately concentrated heavy firepower on the three key targets in the air: Storm, Tony, and Thor.
In an instant, countless energy beams, each as thin as chopsticks, surged towards the three of them like torrents. However, the Ancient One, seemed to have anticipated this, swiftly raising three magical shields to protect these crucial figures who could determine the outcome of the battle.
Meanwhile, on the Chitauri side, each superhero was being forcefully pressed against the barrier by the soldiers. As soon as they touched the barrier, the parts of their bodies in contact were completely corroded.
Strangely, they felt no pain, as if those vanished parts had never existed. Despite their desperate struggles, they couldn't overpower the combined strength of dozens of Chitauri soldiers. They could only watch in despair as their bodies were pushed closer and closer to the barrier.
However, tougher fighters like Wolverine weren't as easy to handle. Wolverine fiercely swung his claws, mercilessly slicing the soldiers clinging to him into pieces, but not without leaving deep, bone-revealing wounds on himself. He continued to tear apart any soldier attempting a mutual destruction with him.
Seeing this, the central brain, connected through a psychic link, quickly changed tactics. A dozen soldiers suddenly charged out from the ranks, disregarding the fatal wounds Wolverine's claws inflicted on them, and locked him in place. The surrounding soldiers raised their energy guns, ignoring their comrades tangled with Wolverine, and without hesitation, pulled the triggers.
Hundreds of energy beams struck Wolverine, piercing through him and the soldiers attached to him. As Wolverine panted heavily, the burnt holes on his body quickly regenerated. In just three seconds, he was back to being seemingly uninjured. However, he was now surrounded by hundreds of energy guns, with the deadly barrier not far behind him.
With a wild roar, Wolverine was engulfed by a barrage of energy beams. His agonizing howl echoed across the arena, like a wolf king facing its final moments. His flesh was instantly vaporized, and before it could regenerate, another wave of beams hit him. Soon, the center of the onslaught was reduced to a metallic skeleton, glinting faintly.
If not for Wolverine's instinctive reaction to cover his eye sockets with his hand bones, protecting his brain, he might have completely lost consciousness and been at the mercy of his enemies.
However, he was unknowingly pushed to the edge of the barrier by the immense kinetic force from the energy beams. A chilling sensation swept through his soul as his spine made contact with the barrier. Even though his bones were made of Adamantium, a metal as renowned as Vibranium, they were as fragile as any scrap metal against the barrier imbued with death energy and rules.
The result was inevitable. Wolverine's last conscious thought was a deep chill as his skull was corroded by the barrier—the cool sensation of his brain exposed to the air. Then, his brain, ribs, leg bones... One by one, they were consumed, leaving only his two adamantine claws behind, gleaming in their final defiant moment.
