"All the pups born on the night of the dark moon must be killed," Alpha Charles declared with a tone of absolution, emphasizing that he didn't call them there to debate over his decision.

All the members of the council had been quiet from the moment he spoke of the prophecy until he gave what his final verdict was.

"There's no telling when the dark moon will appear, so all the men will be alert to carry out the orders once it's time," he continued.

For a moment, he disregarded every sense of consequence that tried to creep into his thoughts.

All that he was preoccupied with was disappointing the hopes of Edna and that witch who had given him the prophecy in the first place.

The only thing that came off as a consequence was the fact that Maya was pregnant as well, and he didn't know if she would give birth on the dark moon as well.
