Marriage consummation

The afternoon sunlight streamed through the window, casting a luminescent glow on the room. 

With his back leaning against the sturdy, floor-to-ceiling window, not like when he first stepped inside the room, he could clearly see the figure of the woman sitting on the bed although they were separated by the white-laced drape. 

Was it because their distance was now closer or because he was familiar with her appearance? Canillas wondered in his mind. 

"She had revealed the reasons why she had come to that decision, asking for a marriage annulment," Canillas' deep voice continued resonating in the quiet room.

Canillas then walked slowly toward the other side of the bed, which was closer to where the window of the room stood. He drew the drape open and tied it to a bedpost and it was the same conduct as he did before.
