In no time, Max maneuvered the new vehicle to the underground parking lot of Trask Industries.
"I'll be stationed at this door. Yukio, your task is to guard this entrance and prevent anyone from approaching. Blink, you're with us too. Your role is to open a portal at the specific location I indicate," Max directed, guiding them out of a different space.
Yukio nodded and said it was okay, but hesitated before expressing her concern. "I can only open the portal where I can see it. If you go too far, I'm afraid…"
"If your eyes are good enough to see where I am in a different space." Max knew that Yukio's teleportation ability was still developing, but she should be able to manage it at this level. So after speaking, Max ignored Yukio's hesitant reaction, turned around, and entered the elevator.
Ding!
The elevator doors closed.
Watching Max enter the elevator, Yukio hesitated before attempting to teleport into the different space.
She lacked confidence in her ability.
"I think you'd better prove your worth to him," Yukio whispered while standing outside the door.
Max didn't respond, just observing Max's position in a different space.
"Ding!"
The crisp sound echoed again as the elevator door opened slowly.
The moment the elevator door opened, countless guns were aimed at the elevator, and the next moment, deafening gunfire erupted.
Da Da Da, Da Da Da!
Bullets rained on Max in the elevator.
How fast is the gun's rate of fire? In movies, characters can shoot for an extended period before running out of bullets, but in reality, firing continuously for five minutes is a staggering amount of firepower.
Max stood still in the elevator, only moving a few times to avoid letting the elevator close on its own.
Double doors.
One opened in front of him, and one opened behind him.
"Are you finished?"
Max closed the double door and waved to the dumbfounded and horrified soldiers with a smile.
Boom!
A door suddenly appeared under their feet, causing them to fall without realizing it. Strangely, when they fell halfway, the door vanished, leaving them suspended.
Their heads and shoulders stuck out from the floor, with taller individuals' feet exposed on the ceiling of the next floor, and shorter ones nearly disappearing into the floor's cracks.
Observing the frightened soldiers, Max shook his head slightly and stepped over their heads.
Their fate might be more miserable. This situation is akin to being buried alive. Although they can still breathe, the sense of oppression and suffocation is more agonizing than a straightforward burial.
Step by step towards the Mutant's rooms, Max encountered numerous enemies along the way. He did two things.
Open the door, close the door!
It didn't take long for him to reach the room's entrance.
Waving his arms and stepping forward simultaneously, the door appeared just as his foot touched the ground.
He walked in, and the door behind him disappeared.
The Mutants in the room turned their collective gaze towards him simultaneously. For many, enduring such scrutiny would be uncomfortable, but Max remained unfazed by their stares.
His attention soon zeroed in on a woman in the distant corner—Chloe.
Chloe, in her thirties but appearing to be in her forties, exhibited signs of wear. Short hair, sunken eye sockets, abnormally pale skin, and a lack of focus in her eyes resembled the traits common among addicts.
She's done for.
Not just her—all of them are done for.
Hounds were treated as entirely expendable. Once their potential was depleted, they were discarded, making way for a new batch.
"I killed Campbell, the one who turned you into a hound. I don't know if you can hear me now or comprehend what I'm saying. I'm offering you a chance to leave this place. Maybe I can find a way to save you. Maybe not. I'll take away all the our kind here. If I can't save you, I'll at least end your suffering !"
After Max concluded, the hounds offered no response.
Max glanced down at the ground, patiently waiting.
After a few moments, a crackling sound emanated from behind him, and a purple light materialized. Max turned to see a slowly expanding purple portal, revealing the entrance to an underground parking lot in a different space.
"Those who accept my conditions can go in," Max declared, addressing the hounds.
No one budged; the room remained still.
"Hurry up, hurry up... I can't hold on much longer," a faltering voice pleaded from the other end.
Max sighed, realizing he might need to take forceful action.
Just as Max prepared to act, a figure tremulously emerged from behind.
Chloe!
Struggling, she approached the portal, cast a glance at Max, and then walked through. Perhaps these hounds were inclined towards blind obedience, as others began to follow suit after witnessing Chloe's move.
In the end, only a handful of individuals, appearing either resolute or completely unhinged, remained rooted in place.
The flickering light was nearly unbearable.
Max emerged from the portal, and it swiftly closed behind her. Flickering, she almost stumbled, her endurance pushed to its limits.
"Over here!"
A distant shout reached them, accompanied by a group of soldiers rushing towards them. A gunshot rang out, targeting Blink from a distance.
The bullet zoomed through the air, heading straight for the Blink, who, despite being aware, had no energy left to evade.
"Open!"
Max commanded with a soft exclamation, and an arch materialized directly behind the Blink, causing the bullet to vanish instantly. "Get them in the truck," Max instructed the Blink, who promptly ushered the hound into his space before boarding the waiting vehicle.
Simultaneously, Yukio sprang into action.
Her sole mission was to prevent anyone from approaching the door, as long as Max hadn't issued another command.
A metallic sound echoed as Katana was unsheathed, and Yukio lunged at the approaching soldiers.
Sounds of the knife slicing through the air.
With the blade in her hand, Yukio, at that moment, bore no resemblance to the usual otaku engrossed in culinary studies at home.
Observing all the hounds safely in the vehicle, Max called out to Yukio.
"Come back."
Yukio swiftly returned, vanishing into the alien space upon hearing the order.
"Wait for me there."
Max concluded her command, gesturing to close the door. She then turned and strolled toward the approaching soldiers.
