Outside the window, snowflakes fluttered, and his thoughts seemed to drift to memories from the past.
…
Anna Jadwin wore a pair of slippers, treading lightly through the snow. There were no cars by the sea, so she walked for half an hour in the cold wind before finally hailing a ride. Her feet were frozen stiff.
Sanna heated water for her to soak her feet in at night, even giving her a massage to improve circulation: "Gosh, did you go plant seedlings in the snowy fields? You look a mess."
Anna lay in the warm room, watching Sanna roll up her sleeves to massage her feet, feeling touched: "You're so good to me, how can I repay you?"
Sanna joked, "Simple, when you remarry Wayne Bailey one day, gift me ten or eight villas..."
Anna laughed softly, knowing that would never happen.
