Hoping for promotion

Basically Asher Adkin's life was very sad, but now it was sadder because he was basically dead.

Alex gave medicines to Asher's mother once she was done eating.

" I don't like these medicines, " She complained like usual. But, she still took them, she wanted to live longer to see her son.

" You have to take them otherwise I won't talk to you, " Alex said with a smile as he gave her the glass of water.

" When are you getting married. Bring me a daughter-in-law so that I can die peacefully and won't need to take these medicines, " She said.

Alex smiled, " I'll bring a very beautiful daughter-in-law for you. You can even order her around. "

" You really should, " The women let out a smile while having a warm gaze.

He then helped her in the bed and covered her in the blanket like Asher would usually do.

She fell asleep

Alex then went out and stood at balcony.

Asher had stopped smoking to save money.

He sighed, as he came back inside.

Asher's mother was looking at the roof with her eyes open.

" Mother, why are you not sleeping? " Alex asked.

" I couldn't sleep, " She said.

" Is there any problem? " Alex asked.

" ... No... Who are you? " She asked.

Alex was stunned as heard her.

" I'm your son mother. I'm Ash, are you okay? " He said with a worried look.

" No. You're not. You're exactly like him. But, I know you're not my Ash. Where is my son? " The women said making Alex feel stunned.

His acting, his everything was flawless, how did that women find out?

Alex knew that there was no use denying. This women was sure of her words.

She knew Alex was impersonating Asher!

" Yes... I'm not him, " He accepted.

" Where is my Ash? " She asked again.

" He... He... Needed to go away for an assignment. So he sent me here... To take care of you... " Alex said, he was shameless, but even he couldn't say that he killed Asher, right now.

" I see. When will he be back? I want to see him, " The women said.

" He will be back soon. You will be worried, that's why he told me to come here and take care of you, " Alex said.

" Can't you call him? " She asked worried.

" No. It's a secret mission. He wasn't allowed to contact outsiders. All people on the mission are replaced by people like me, " Alex bullshitted his way through with experience.

" Ohh. It's good that he is getting such a mission. Technology has really progressed as well. Then, I'll sleep now, " The women said and slept with a relieved look.

Alex looked at this women a little longer and then took pillow and bedsheets to sleep on the ground.

Next day Alex woke up early.

He brushed his teeth and got ready to go for duty.

It was his first day at work after all.

Alex also helped Asher's mother Luna to get up. He led her till bathroom and also made breakfast for her.

" Are you going? " The women asked.

" Yes, I need to do his work as well. I'll come back in evening, " Alex smiled as he fed Asher's mother.

" The lunch is on the table, I have packed it. Eat it when you're hungry, " Alex said as Asher would say usually.

" Thank you, " The women thanked.

Alex smiled and left.

He took his bike and rode to the Police Station.

It was early in the morning, slightly before 8.

As soon as Alex parked his bike, he saw another person.

From Asher's memories he knew that this man was from the same team as him.

Actually Asher was the Vice-Team leader of his team.

" Good morning Sir, " The man greeted.

Alex greeted back and both of them entered the office while chatting.

There were 5 officers in a team, including vice team leader and one extra team leader.

After Alex, everyone soon appeared.

The Team leader was the last one to arrive, he was bald middle aged man, the way he talked made one feel closer to him.

" So, what is our today's case ? " The only female in the team asked.

She was young women who had just joined the team last month, she was newest here.

She had petite figure, but cheerful attitude.

" Ah. I chose this case. You can take them as you want, " Team leader said.

Everyone looked at the three cases which were assigned to the team.

Two of them were old cases which team already was working on, while the third one was taken by Team leader just now.

Alex said, " I'll work on the case I was working on. "

" Okay! " Team leader laughed. He knew that Asher was a really hard working person.

He admired this young man.

Alex wanted to work on the case regarding Adkins family, but to reopen that case Alex would need Team leader to do that.

Alex was sure that this man won't do that.

He needed to be removed!

Alex started thinking of a Plan from going through his memories.

But, their Team leader was a Clean man, it was going to be kinda long work. Alex sighed.

He took the case file and left for his work.

It was almost 4 in evening when he came back, he submitted his findings and went to his seat.

He was going to go through old files to look for old Adkins family case.

He checked online about where the file was and got it.

As soon as he sat down, he heard the voice of cheerful petite women in his team.

" What case are you reading sir? " She asked.

" It's none of your business, " Asher always talked curtly with this women because she wasn't rich and was useless to him.

" Aww. Let me see... "

" No, " Alex glared at the women and that made her back up.

But, as he looked at her, a plan formed in his mind.

He asked, " Do you like me? "

" W-What?! What are you saying sir? " The women was shocked. She blushed as her thoughts were said by Alex.

" I know you like me. Let's go on a date, you completed your work right? " Alex asked.

" Y-Yes... " The women was stunned, but Alex then held her hand and took her out of the station.

" My bike is okay right? " He asked as he made the women seat behind him.

The women was but still shocked, she didn't know what was happening.

This all happened too quickly.

Before she knew it. They were before some hotel.

Alex booked a room and took her there.

It was the same hotel where he met Bianca last night.

" W-Wait S-Sir. What about the date? " The women asked as she blushed knowing what would happen in this room.

She was still a virgin, Alex now clearly knew this from her way of acting.

" It's fine. This is the way to start our relationship. If you like me then its fine, " Alex smiled reassuringly.

The women didn't know what happened after that, as Alex took her virginity and she completely fell in love with him.

Alex smiled in satisfaction. As he sent the women back.

He needed her to complete a plan to close the case of their Team Leader.

Alex sneered as he went back home.

" I'm home, " He said as he started the lights.

" You're home early, " Asher's mother said.

" Yes. Today, we are going out to sightsee, " Alex said.

" No... I can't walk too much, " Asher's mother said.

" You don't need to worry for that aunty, " Alex said as he washed up changed into casual clothes.

He picked up the women gently making sure she won't be hurt and took her down.

There he created a wheel chair and made her seat on it.

Alex then took her on a walk as he used to take his aunt Alia in her dream.

They didn't talk much, but the women seemed content looking around.

But, still she seemed to be looking for her son, who will never come back again.

Alex felt guilty... For a moment.

They then went back home.

Alex made dinner and fed her gently like her son always did. This seemed to have reminded her of him.

" When will he be back? " Asher's mother asked again before sleeping. She was worried for her son. After all he was her everything.

Alex could only reply " Soon enough " Before he tucked her in the bed.

Alex sighed as he as well slept.

In the morning same schedule followed.

But, today he planned to remove Team Leader from his position.

He had a full proof plan.

This time he took the same case as the Team leader, the women and another team member were taking.

Team Leader heartily welcomed him, as Asher was a star worker.

" This case is a big one. It's related to drug dealers, we investigated yesterday and found about the site of drug dealing... " The other member informed Alex.

Alex nodded and chatted with him, while they reached to the investigation site where the drug deal was supposed to happen in few hours.

" Sir, will just four of us be enough? " The women asked to the Team Leader.

" We're only scouting. As soon as we send signal, we'll get a well armed team here in 3 minutes, " Team Leader laughed.

" Then, I'm reassured, " The women said.

" We should check this warehouse for clues, this might not be their first deal here, " Alex said.

" You're right Asher, we'll do this in group of two, " Team Leader said.

Alex and Team Leader formed a group while women went with that remaining member.

" You remember the plan right? "

" Do I really need to do that? " The women asked with nervous expression. She had looked over the plan for whole night, but she couldn't go against Alex.

" You're just a slave. Follow my orders then I'll reward you, " Alex said as he left.

Team Leader started singing a story of his young days as he chatted with Alex.

He was a really good person.

Alex didn't feel a shred of sorrow while scheming against him though.

He listened and even enthusiastically added sentences here and there.

But after a moment Alex's phone rang.

It was the signal that work was done.

Alex smiled, as he acted as if he was talking.

" There is some problem on other side. We need to go, " Alex said so and ran towards were women and that man were.

Team Leader also ran behind Alex.

Soon, they found where the women and their other member was.

But, as soon as Team Leader saw the scene, his mind went blank.

Alex had used 'Devour' and ' Dream Manipulation' on him.

His memories changed.

He saw that, the other member was trying to force himself upon the women.

So, he tried to save her. He even took out his gun for intimidation.

But, everything went wrong when he by mistake shot the man and he died.

Alex took the gun from Team Leader's pocket and removed a bullet from it.

He destroyed the bullet.

The same gun which was in the women's hand disappeared.

It was actually made from Alex's skill.

After a moment everything started working.

Team Leader fell to his knees in front of his team member's corpse, whom he himself had shot.

Alex acted like a shocked bystander as he went near the women and draped a coat over her trembling body.

" Team Leader, it wasn't your fault! I'll take the blame, " Alex said with trembling voice as he made the old man who had aged way too much in last few moments up.

But, then team leader closed his eyes.

" No. You don't need to. I was the one who did that... Even if I didn't want to... " Team Leader said as his hands trembled.

" No. You did it to save me, " The women as well started sobbing.

She looked really frightened, but still for her team leader who was a father figure to her she stood up.

She wanted him to not feel guilty.

The old team leader was moved to tears as he thought what he had done was correct.

If he could help this women, then even if he went back in time he would still choose the same path.

As for Alex, he really admired this women for this unpaid acting.

After that what happened was easy to guess.

Team Leader was arrested on the same day.

With Alex's and the women's testimonies he will most likely only be just removed from his job and had to pay some fine.

But, that wasn't going to happen soon.

Alex was now looking forward to his promotion very patiently.

He had worked hard for this promotion.

Someone once said, if you work hard, you'll get successful!

Success is not a goal, it's just a journey!!!

He was the prime example for that.

Alex went back home that day and spent the evening with Asher's mother, he just felt weirdly calm as he sat with her.

That was why he would always find some time for her.

In these three days the women as well opened up to Alex, even though knowing that he wasn't Asher.

Alex was happy with this life.

But, next day he got a news from his mother Alice.

" Alan Gracia was arrested, but he somehow escaped. Everything is happening as you expected, I have used your illusion card and turned myself into you... " Alice said.
