Play dead

"Do not worry about the young madam, master. She probably overexerted herself and so she suffered from fatigue. She simply needed total rest to recover. If possible, she should stay away from stress and rest from any activities. Having a healthy diet is also recommended."

Dominic Zhu looked at Heaven, remembering the doctor's words this morning. He sat beside her on the hospital bed, looking at her profile. She still had the same pale complexion when he brought her here after she fainted when they were talking about their divorce in the garden.

'Fatigue?' he silently sneered. 'Just what did you do to get overfatigue?'

From his knowledge, Heaven hasn't even touched the broom for five years. There were too many servants in the house to do all the chores for her. He never even expected her to do any of that. He just expected her to take care of their son, which was obviously something she couldn't and wouldn't do.

All this woman did for the past five years was tend to herself. She only needed to take care of herself, but she could not even do such a simple task. The fact that she was now lying on a hospital bed due to fatigue irritated him to no end. Dominic felt bitterness swelled up in his chest.

'You already won. You are already getting back the freedom you think I stole.' His face crumpled with bitterness and inexplicable anger. 'Then why are you still like this?'

Was it better to see her jumping for joy after signing their divorce paper? To be truthfully honest, Dominic didn't know. It would be better if they just ended things quickly. The past had damaged them in so many ways. In that case, they could start healing from the bad decisions they had made in the past.

As Dominic was keeping his eyes fixed on his wife, unbeknownst to him, Heaven was already fully awake.

'Damn. I don't even need to open my eyes to know if someone is glaring daggers at me,' she thought. She kept her eyes closed the entire time, turning her head to the other side to avoid her husband's dark gaze. She could imagine the dark shroud enveloping him while glaring at her 'unconscious' body.

'I think my theory was right. I just woke up from this body yesterday.' Heaven diverted her thoughts and stopped noticing her husband's deadly glares. 'Thinking about it, I probably strained myself. Well, at least, all I need is total rest away from stress and a healthy diet!' she smiled inwardly.

The doctor's reassurance put her heart at ease. She was afraid Heaven was suffering from a deadly disease. She had died once, dying twice was a total bad luck.

'Does that mean he will be postponing the divorce?' She wondered, clenching her teeth to remind herself she was currently playing unconscious. 'I guess I'm lucky in this life hehe — damn. Just why can't he stop glaring at me?' She silently grumbled.

Dominic stayed for about an hour before leaving the hospital. That meant she had to play unconscious for that period of time. He waited for her to regain consciousness, but was told by the doctor her body was probably recharging. Thus, he didn't idle for long as he went home to settle some matters in the household.

"Master, should we tell the young master about the young madam?" Dominic's assistant asked from the front passenger seat as soon as his boss got in the back seat, glancing at the rearview mirror.

"There's no need to worry him," Dominic replied in a tired voice while he unbuttoned his blazer suit leisurely.

The assistant nodded in understanding and asked once more, "Should I move your schedule to later today?" He already knew his boss had cleared his schedule. He was the kind of boss to make room for important meetings.

"No need," Dominic replied after a moment of hesitation and shook his head. "Let's head home. I need to know what this woman had been doing for her to faint like that."

"Yes, sir."

With that being said, the black sedan that was parked near the entrance of the hospital sped away.

If there was one person in the world that Heaven hated the most, it was Dominic. That was no secret and almost everyone knew that. She blamed him for everything and the mere sight of him turned her stomach. So Dominic did the only solution he could think of. He made sure that he avoided Heaven at all costs.

In other words, it had been three months since Dominic and Heaven saw each other despite living under the same roof. Her hobby of locking herself in the room and his busy schedule helped avoid any disaster between them.

He would occasionally ask the people in the house about her well-being. But all he got every time was the same:

[The Madam had been in her room.]

Those were the reports he would hear, and he never doubted that because he knew Heaven. If only she could, she wouldn't even touch her food, knowing it came out of his pocket.

Thinking about his relationship with his wife suddenly brought light to almost everything.

'It's not that I don't understand why she hated me that much,' he thought, staring at the window of the backseat. 'Actually, I fully understand.'

Dominic was the one who insisted on this marriage. He wanted to take responsibility as he had always been. Thus, even when there were no feelings between him and Heaven, he married her.

He tried, though.

He did his best to be the best father and a good husband. He didn't need love to be a husband, after all. All he had to do was make her happy, but obviously, no matter how hard he tried, his entire existence was the root of her misery.

'If we made a different decision back then, would we be in better places?' He wondered. Thinking back to those times that he was at peace. Then he recalled how Heaven fainted this morning.

Dominic's decision to correct all the things that had been wrong strengthened his resolve. Opposite to what Heaven had expected. It might hurt his son, but this was better, knowing she would hurt him more if she stayed. This was also for her own good. Staying had been torture for her; perhaps, if he let her go, she would be able to live a lot happier.

What he did not know, Heaven was also cooking up plans on how to pick up the pieces of the broken vow that the old Heaven had done. While he was determined to let her go and correct his decision, the new Heaven would do anything so that she could stay.
