POV of Tybero tenth moon 285 AC

The moment of truth had arrived. Thousands of Dothraki crossed the river and soon encountered the first obstacle: the massive Dothraki group brought a considerable number of horses, and the areas to feed their horses were very limited. The smaller groups before had fought each other several times to control the few lands we hadn't burned in front of our camp. This ensured that some Dothraki died every day without us having to do anything, but the large khalasar expelled the rest and settled in front of our camp in the hills.

For a day, everything followed the routine of various attempts by Dothraki bands to find a hole in our defenses, but once again, they failed due to the constant patrols guarding the trenches.

It was then that we noticed all the Dothraki were uniting into a single khalasar. The estimated size of the khalasar was between twenty thousand and twenty-eight thousand, but now it had absorbed more than ten thousand Dothraki who had joined the khal to breach our defenses. In the best-case scenario, we outnumbered them, but comparing a young crossbowman to a Dothraki rider was not feasible. In the worst case, we were evenly matched in numbers, but the problem was that all our forces were dispersed along the hills.

There was much panic during this time because we began to fortify this camp even more. If the khal decided to attack directly, this camp would likely crush us, as the Westerosi troops were in distant places, and most of them were the most inexperienced. Fortunately, the khal decided not to attack today.

But the next day, the Dothraki attacks resumed, this time much more organized and numerous. However, their sheer numbers made the attacks more predictable, allowing us to concentrate troops to stop them. Nevertheless, the skirmishes became increasingly bloody as each side lost many men in every exchange.

This situation lasted a week until the observers determined that the Dothraki were preparing for a general assault on our fortification, as all the Dothraki groups began to gather in one place. Lothar held a Protestant mass in the morning, thinking that the attack would happen then. All the Westerosi knelt and began to pray to their crucified god for strength and courage to overcome fear and pain.

What surprised me was the number of extra people who joined the Protestant event. Hundreds of mercenaries from all over Essos also knelt and began to pray to the crucified god, seeking help in the upcoming battle. When the Protestant mass ended, everyone dispersed among the defensive rings built in the camp: three defensive levels of basic fortifications. Since the Dothraki had no siege equipment, it wasn't worthwhile to invest in complex defenses.

With the enormous amount of soil extracted from the trenches, we created several levels of earthen ramparts with trenches, leaving only the soldier's head exposed to use their crossbow. This was built on both sides of the road at various levels, creating what the Westerosi called the "zone of death" since there was no place for someone trying to climb to hide from projectiles.

The second defensive line was similar, but there was a lot of Westerosi siege machinery like scorpions and catapults, and a weapon I almost got killed for seeing, but Lothar assured me it would give the Dothraki a warm welcome. The third defensive line was the camp fortifications, a low stone palisade of only five meters high. Here, we would resist the Dothraki attack if the other defensive rings collapsed.

From the top of the hill, we watched as the massive khalasar moved against us, and thousands of screaming Dothraki riders were galloping toward us. Which was ridiculous because their horses would be of no use; they would have to fight on foot, something they despised.

"I'm going to fight at the front. If something happens that requires quick intervention, you know who to talk to," said Lothar, putting on his helmet and unsheathing his Valyrian steel sword, leading several of his knights to the first defensive ring.

The dust generated by the Dothraki approached us, and I stood watching for several minutes as that sea of horses approached. The Dothraki rode straight for our camp, and the only thing preventing them from using their horses was the surprise Lothar had ordered to be built.

When the first Dothraki were starting to climb the hill with their horses, several fell into a hole that was built in the middle of the road, causing dozens of horses and riders to fill the hole where sharp stakes awaited, impaling men and horses alike. When the Dothraki fell into the first trap, the crossbowmen began their mission and bombarded the Dothraki with bolts as they abruptly stopped in their charge. Several riders died from the crossbows, but they only surrounded the hole and continued advancing, trying to ascend the earthworks. However, they found that Lothar and his men were cutting off the path, preventing the Dothraki from fighting against the crossbowmen who were trying to reload their crossbows.

For the first time, I saw Lothar fight, as I had only seen him have great strength to kill people with blows if necessary. As Lothar said, the Dothraki showed madness when Lothar entered the combat; some Dothraki jumped off their horses to rush against him. Lothar caught a Dothraki in the air and with a single movement crushed his skull with his hand. But that was only the beginning of his problems, as more Dothraki rushed against him. Lothar and his knights gained enough time for the crossbowmen to continue shooting bolts at the Dothraki.

Finally, several Dothraki dismounted and charged against the Westerosi knights. The first to advance was Lothar, who with a single movement of his sword cut three Dothraki in half.

The Dothraki began to use their bows to counterattack the crossbowmen on the earthworks. For ten minutes, the knights stood firm until they noticed that the Dothraki had started to climb the earthworks and attack the crossbowmen. Although those crossbowmen had killed a bunch of Dothraki, when they arrived with their curved swords, they couldn't offer much more resistance than dying or simply abandoning their position to the upper earthworks.

The knights began to retreat before the Dothraki surrounded them, and this happened several times as we lost ground steadily, leaving behind small mountains of our enemies' bodies.

The battle in the outer ring lasted for almost an hour, where the Dothraki kept pushing against our forces and assaulting the earthworks. Despite Lothar's forces standing firm, even alarmingly outnumbered against the Dothraki, they only retreated when their flanks were in jeopardy. Although the numbers of knights dwindled gradually, as Lothar sent back anyone injured to minimize casualties, the Dothraki finally retreated, leaving a heap of dead scattered everywhere. Many celebrated, thinking it was all over and that we had defeated the Dothraki, only for that perception to be fleeting as Lothar said they would return.

Lothar ordered an attempt to retake advanced positions and recover the dead and wounded before they returned. The brief peace lasted only thirty minutes before the Dothraki returned, and we only managed to retake three earthworks out of the eight we had lost. Again, everything repeated. Crossbowmen fought against Dothraki archers, while many climbed the earthworks to overwhelm our crossbowmen, and a frenzied horde of Dothraki tried to kill Lothar.

Several times I saw Lothar with Dothraki on his back or head, trying to plunge their daggers into his visor. He struggled to shake them off, killing them afterward, or his knights helped him in this mission of removing the Dothraki. This happened four times, where the Dothraki forced us to retreat before withdrawing themselves and regaining as much ground as possible before the next attack.

This time, Lothar decided to return to the camp. He was soaked in blood and began eating something that had been prepared for him. I saw him devour an entire sheep in minutes. After that, Lothar called all his knights and riders, mounted their horses, and left the camp. This left many bewildered, thinking that Lothar decided to escape. However, if his aide was still here, it meant they had something planned... I think.

Lothar's aide ordered a total retreat from the outer defensive ring, and now we only defended in the second. This time, what stood between the Dothraki horde and us were the young Westerosi trainees, and with their shoulders fully protected, they presented the Dothraki with a wall of long pikes.

This time, the Dothraki began to retreat under the push of the pikes, as they couldn't do anything to break the formation. The men at the front were equipped with plate armor, and the Dothraki arrows only bounced off. Every time someone tried to push to enter the formation, they were impaled by several pikes at the same time.

The Dothraki clashed against an unbreakable wall, and the pikemen steadily pushed back the Dothraki. Meanwhile, on their flanks, there were several wolf heads accompanied by those wearing a skull on their hat, fighting hand to hand with the Dothraki and causing a slaughter in the trenches of the earthworks.

However, suddenly, they started to retreat in the center and on the flanks. As they withdrew, the Westerosi scorpions provided cover with the help of the crossbowmen, but the catapults began to launch oil barrels, and several men started opening barrels with the same mixture to fill the path.

When the Dothraki charged again, I noticed two things: a large contingent of knights was riding against the Dothraki camp, and from one of the trenches that was about to be taken by the Dothraki, a group of men dressed in black leather covering their entire bodies, except for their eyes, emerged.

What happened would be the wet dream of every R'hllor follower. With a long tube, they began to launch a great flame that spread for meters, igniting the oil that had been previously launched and turning thousands of Dothraki into torches. Heart-rending screams of pain filled the battlefield as thousands of Dothraki burned. I could see Lothar's companion laughing like a maniac when he saw how much of the battlefield was on fire.

"Stop, no more bolts, no more arrows, let them burn!" shouted Lothar's companion. Everything stopped, and they began to laugh as they watched the Dothraki burn.

After they stopped launching fire, and the blaze subsided, the order was given to pursue the fleeing Dothraki. The Dothraki fled to their camp, where Lothar was already present, and they decided to retreat to another location.

When we reached the camp, I found that Lothar had complete control and quickly had me ask questions about the Dothraki khal. Apparently, he had died in the first charge, fighting against Lothar, along with several of his sons and bloodriders. I will have to search among the bodies, as Lothar wants to send his head to Myr.

But before anything else, the surviving Dothraki regrouped, and Lothar ordered his men into battle formation. His pikemen in the center and his cavalry on both flanks to finally put an end to everything, as the survivors hardly reached ten thousand.

But slowly, the riders approached and began cutting their braids... the form of unconditional surrender of the Dothraki. The Dothraki threw them before Lothar's horse, which allowed their surrender. Some Dothraki dismounted and knelt before Lothar, starting to speak to him while more and more joined the kneeling.

"What are they saying? I don't understand," said Lothar. His companion approached and acted as a translator.

"He says you proved to be the strongest khal, killing his khal, his sons, and bloodriders. He asks to join you and your great khalasar," said Lothar's companion.

Lothar looked at me, and I nodded, as it was an excellent translation. Lothar removed his helmet and put on a disgusted face; it seemed he was going to reject, but his companion began whispering in his ear in their language.

Lothar nodded and turned to the large group of kneeling Dothraki before him.

"I will allow you to join me if you reject your false god... because mine is the only true god, the creator of heaven, earth, and stars, as I was chosen by my god to guide his people. That is my condition," said Lothar, using his dagger to pierce his hand when he asked them to reject their god, and when he finished, he wiped his hand to show that it was healing at an alarming rate.

Lothar's companion made the translation in Dothraki that sounded as if he were a native. Many Dothraki stood up, cut their braids, and left, but the rest stayed, watching Lothar with admiration and accepting the deal.

Three thousand Dothraki joined Lothar. For the rest of the day, Lothar dedicated himself to baptizing the Dothraki and giving them Christian names, while the rest looted the Dothraki camp and searched for the head of the dead khal.

The prisoners were released, as well as the families of the Dothraki, as they wanted the story of what had happened here to spread, as requested by Myr, but they kept the Dothraki slaves.
