Tension

There is no good, there is no evil, only power, and those too weak to claim it—King Aemon Targaryen

111 AC

Emilia POV

The ship rocked side to side as the gentle waves crashed against the hull of the vessel carrying the royal family. I watched Lady Adella. Prince Aegon and Prince Aemon's companion, Robar Belmont, watch Prince Aemon practice his bow as he struck down three birds from the sky in quick succession. Quickly the applause of lords and ladies who had come on this trip with the king echoed through the ship.

Princess Rheanyra looked annoyed as she saw the lords and ladies once again fawning over the prince. As they did so often, he was truly a remarkable boy, peerless with a sword for his age, and even most boys older than him—a boy of 8 name days who's indiscernible from a boy of 14 name days—would be preposterous in and of itself if not for the much larger boy standing right next to the prince.

A boy who was only a little older than the prince in age but much taller, resembling a boy of sixteen with coal black hair and crystal blue eyes broad-shouldered with muscles, a boy his age shouldn't have. He had been the prince's shadow since the prince saved him from flea bottom rumour had it the boy was a secret Baratheon bastard how much truth those rumours held was known only to him.

Looking at Aemon I couldn't help but smile. The warm feeling in my stomach rising to my chest, the boy was the closest I had to a child of my own after my miscarriage which occurred a year before he was born. I had been with the Aemon since he came into this world, and there was nowhere would I rather be than by his side.

Viseryes Pov

The cold winds blew through the air as the ship came closer and closer to Dragonstone. I couldn't help but contemplate how ridiculously complicated my life had been since Daemon did what he did thinking of it fury rose from my stomach to my chest. I couldn't help but suck my teeth. I swallowed another cup of wine drowning the flames of anger in it.

Now with Rheanyra's reputation in tatters, not to mention her rejection of pretty much half of the dam realm on her tour, I'm stuck between an ocean and a volcano.

Lord Corlys was many things, but an unambiguous man he was not. As I proposed the marriage idea of my hire to his sword swallow son, he had the gall to demand Aemon as well, demanding I marry his daughter to my son to get Rheanyra the match she needed. He was blatantly trying to extort me, and I couldn't do anything about it. I couldn't force his hand with this weak political position, and with Daemon in exile, he held the only war-ready dragon in his hands with Rheanyes, so I was under a large amount of pressure to acquiesce to his "request".

The problem was that I knew entirely too well the hot water it would land me in with Alicent, Otto Tyland, Jason, and even Aemon. A blind man could see what they were doing; sure, they hid it well enough, but the amount of time Adella and Aemon spent with one another, along with the fact that she somehow became Alicent's handmaiden when Alicent had rejected most others more qualified was suspicious enough.

Aemon brought a sour taste to my mouth. The boy was everything I had wanted in a son, peerless with a sword and a mind as sharp as my grandsire, but the glint in his eyes reminded me of a man I knew all too well—that vicious glint—the glint that Daemon had—the glint that promised fire and blood to anyone that dared to oppose him. I wasn't half sure he would just push Laena down the many stairs of the red keep. I let out a deep sigh. I may be being too harsh on him. Aemon is a child, not Daemon, but I might need to sacrifice his love to secure Rheanyra's claim to the throne, no matter how much he or Alicent hated it.

Aemon Pov

We docked at Dragon Stone as Adella and I got off the ship. Robar and Emilia carried our stuff with the rest of the servants to the

"So you really plan to do it tonight?" Adella asked me in an anxious voice that showed she didn't appreciate my plan; she was vehemently against it, but the news I had gotten forced my hand to act more recklessly.

"Unless you wish to be a guest at my wedding, I do. I never imagined my plan would backfire on us. Corlys that dam rat, I'm going to need to fix him; he's forgotten his place and where he stands in the world." I couldn't keep the venom in my voice contained, thanks to my spy in Driftmark. I had managed to get the information about his ambition from a lose-lipped cupbearer after he had used one of my establishments.

Viseryes has gone too far, using me to cover Rheanyras mistake was a blunder. I will not allow how dare he try and rip Adella away from me. I would burn him alive, but I lacked a dragon, so for the first time I used the compass I got from Grian, and it pointed here to the Dragon Mound, so I will find my dragon here. It's either Virmithor Silverwing Sheepstealer or another one. I didn't want to try and claim these dragons so soon as they are much more dangerous than Sunfyre or Dreamfyre, who I previously tried to claim, and there was no guarantee I wouldn't become ash, but I refused to live in a world where I wouldn't marry Adella, and I refused to allow that halfwit to dictate anything to me ever again.

"I'll distract the Kingsguard guarding your room, and I already have a solution for Emilia, but promise me you won't risk too much if it seems too dangerous to run. We can find another way to deal with the whore, a knife in the dark works just as well as a dragon's jaws," she said, reluctantly accepting the situation we were in and what I was going to do.

"Seven hells I hate how reckless you are, but I'm with you always and forever," she said in a gentle voice.

"As I am with you always and forever," I repeated our words, words that promised companionship forever and support no matter what even if the world was against us we would have each other
