Chapter 31: Flames of the Moon Goddess

I thought and hoped that Grandpa’s funeral would be the last one I’d ever attend, but I was wrong. I watched the body of Gawain on top of the pyre. A wooden structure was built, it was thick with bramble and oil soaked. Shortly after Gawain had died, his body reverted into a large wolf. His fur was a dark shade of red just like the color of his hair was in human form.

Shifters dressed in white and gray robes were placing flowers around the wolf's body.

Feren told me that they were known as the disciples of the Moon Goddess, the deity that most if not all of the shifters worshiped. The few disciples along with a Moon Priestess of the Goddess traveled from Scotland to give Gawain his last rites and send him back to the Goddess.
