“The Spear of Nekphet is an ancient treasure of my people,” Baltazar said, regaling me with the boring story of his family’s history. “Nekphet was the right hand of Anubis and legend said that it was he who created the Shifter curse that spread across the ancient world long, long ago.”

“And this spear gives a shifter great power and dominance over the other shifters?” I asked. It seemed a little far-fetched that such a thing existed, but I still had much to learn about the shifter world.

“Or so the legend is told,” Baltazar replied, lighting up the cigar he had snuffed out a while ago. The disgusting smell wafted through the air as he took a puff. I tried not to gag.

“We shifters already have superhuman abilities and our senses are already heightened. But the spear gives us dominance over much of the shifter world.”
