5.7 A Foolish Pursuit

After dinner, Lucian retreated to his study, immersing himself in work. An hour passed, and he glanced at his eunuch.

"Go check where Cass is," he instructed.

The eunuch nodded and promptly left. Upon receiving permission to enter Seraphina's room, he found Cass reclining on the bed while Seraphina engrossed herself in a book.

Seraphina inquired, "Does Father need to see me?"

The eunuch clarified, "His Majesty just wanted to see where Cass was."

Cass directed his attention to Seraphina, making a decisive statement, "Tell him from now on, I'll sleep here."

Peering at Cass, Seraphina asked with concern, "Are you sure?" She sensed his frustration with her father, but distance wouldn't mend their relationship.

"I am," Cass affirmed.

Seraphina turned to the eunuch, determined, "Tell him from now on, Cass will spend the night in my chambers."
