"My mom literally sold me for drugs when I was ten years old, so please save your sad mommy stories for someone else." Margaret "Peggy" Gallagher spent her whole life selling herself to take care of her siblings. Now she's halfway across the country in the best residency program in the nation.
Peggy Gallagher stood in the kitchen of her home cooking breakfast for her family seeing as this was her last day with them. She set the eggs, bacon, and hash browns on the table before calling for her siblings, "Guys breakfast is ready!"
The next thing she heard was a stampede of footsteps running down the two sets of stairs. All five of her siblings entered the kitchen and sat at the table. Moving to grab plates she handed them to the three older ones before making plates for the younger two. Setting them down she makes her own then sat down to start a conversation with them.
"I'm gonna miss you, Peggy," Debbie says to her older sister as tears filled her eyes.
A small tight smile makes its way onto her face, "I'm gonna miss you too Debs. I'm gonna miss all of you!" She reaches over to rub her cheek.
Carl looks over at her upset, "Why do you have to go so far away?"
She sighs, "I have to because this hospital is the best in the country and that means I can end making a lot of money." A small smirk comes onto her face, "And with a lot of money, I can buy you two all the toys you want" She turns to the three older ones, "And maybe enough to get custody of all of you. Which would mean we would all get the hell out of the southside."
The four laugh before Lip sighs, "I just wish the hospital wasn't so far away"
"Me too" she stands up to collect their plates, "but that means whenever you all need a break from Monica and Frank you can get far away from them. Plus when I get custody, I can move all of you out of Chicago and maybe my place would be big enough to get you all your own rooms."
"That would be awesome" Ian mumbles moving to help his sister, "Do you really think you would make enough so we could have our own rooms?"
She nods, "I hope so, doctors make a crap ton, and where I'm going some of the best doctors work. So I hope I can work hard enough to make a lot."
"Okay time to get ready for school!" Fiona tells the group which makes them all run out of the room. "I really hope everything you said comes true."
Peggy moves over to her sister, "It Will Fiona, I'm going to work my ass off at this hospital and then I'm gonna move all of you out there" She hesitates for a second giving her a look, "Maybe I should wait for Debbie and Carl to get older before going-"
Fiona interrupts her, "No, you have spent your entire life taking care of us," She grabs Peggy's hands, "Go, enjoy yourself in Seattle, I'll call you if anything happens"
"Are you sure? Because this is your out, if you don't want to have to take care of them, you have to tell me right now." Peggy raises her eyebrow at her.
She gets a nod in return, "Think about it you had to sell yourself at the strip club to even pay to go to college and med school. We don't have any money for me to go to college, if you make it at this hospital we can move out of here and maybe in five years there will be enough in the college fund for me." She nods at her one more time, "So if I have to spend the next few years taking care of the kids, I'm going to do it. So we can all have our dreams."
"Okay" Peggy nods with her eyes glistening, "Thank you Fiona" She pulls her into her arms squeezing her tight.
"Your welcome" She whispers back before they heard feet stomp back down the steps. "Everyone ready for school?" They received nods in reply.
Peggy moved to grab her purse, "Alright everyone to the car!" They all move out of the house and into their sister's car before beginning their journey to school. Debbie was dropped off first at the elementary school, then Lip and Ian at the middle school, and then finally Fiona at the high school. "Have a good day Fi!"
"Bye Peg!" She waves before walking into the school, Peggy lets out a sigh before driving off to the store.
Once there she turned to Carl, "Alright Carl let's do some shopping" She gets her self and Carl out of the car before heading inside the store, "Okay I need, a new toothbrush, Shampoo, and Conditioner, body wash, razors, a hairbrush, hair ties, tam-"
Carl stops her by pulling on her hand, "I get it you have to get a lot but do you have to say everything out loud?" She goes to respond before he stops her before she could, "Look it's bumblebee!" He pulls her to the toy aisle. "Can we get it please!"
She smiles before looking at the price tag on it, Her face falls, "Why don't you pick out a different toy, It's really expensive."
His hopeful gaze falls into disappointment before nodding, he looks around before seeing another toy. He checks the tags and sees . "Peggy! This one is only ten dollars can I get it!"
She looks at the package of ninja turtles in his hand before glancing at the price. She nods approving of the price, "Yeah, put it in the cart," He lets out an excited yell before putting it in the cart and grabbing her hand once more. Not feeling comfortable pushing the cart and holding his hand she picks him up and puts him in the cart. "You know the Ninja Turtles are so much cooler than Bumblebee anyways."
Carl looks up at her and recognizes the look on her face as one she always has when she thinks he's upset. "I agree" He decides to agree with her to make her smile again and it worked. Satisfied with himself he lets a smile come onto his face, "Can we hurry up and get your stuff I want to play with my new toys."
"Of courses can!" She nods speeding up slightly to get to the pharmacy section of the store. They moved down all of the aisles getting their supplies before getting some snacks and heading home.
The two relaxed at home for an hour before their parents barged into the door. Peggy stands up to glare at the two giggling adults, "Where the hell have you two been!"
Frank scoffs at her, "Now that's none of your business! What me and your mother do in our free time does not concern you!" He moves his eyes to Carl, "Hey why aren't you two at school?"
Monica nods, "Yeah we didn't pay all that money for you to go to school just to have you ditch"
Peggy rolls her eyes at her parents, "One you two didn't pay for my schooling, two if either of you even bothered to notice I graduated two months ago. I'm leaving today."
"What!" Monica yells, "You can't just leave, who's gonna watch all the kids."
Frank nods agreeing with his wife, "Exactly, and who's gonna pay for all of our stuff."
"The same people who always have," She rolls her eyes again, "I'm going to work my ass off at my job and send money for the bills." Peggy moves to pick up Carl, "You would know all of this if you bothered to listen to us."
Monica moved and hugged her daughter, "Wow I knew keeping you would be a good idea. Everyone told me to leave you at a fire station but I told them my little girl is going to grow up and solve all of our problems."
