Max walked up to Regus's office in Ixtal with a smug smile on his face. 

The war had changed everything. 

Before the war, with the bigger threat of the dark faction always looming around, the light faction monarchs would never dare squabble internally, but that situation had now changed. 

The light faction politics had become more prominent and Regus Aurelius was clearly unpopular. 

If he had chosen to ally with Max instead of making an enemy out of him, he could have enjoyed a majority support in the council and easily secured benefits for his Monarchy, but his decision to imprison Max had cost him heavily. 

As a King, he was not answerable to anyone which meant that nobody would find out that the Vampire Society lost out on benefits because their King was a douchebag, but it was sure to sting Regus everytime he was alone with his thoughts.
