Zale POV
I tried to focus on the work in front of me, but there was absolutely nothing that had my interest less at the moment than work. In fact, I would be hard pressed to find anything that would be able to hold my attention.
All I could think of was Adeline.
I had no idea how things had become like this. I had almost felt like we were on the path to a true relationship. But then something had happened, and now everything was derailed. The worst part was that I had no idea what it was that had happened.
Maybe if I knew, I would be able to solve it. But every time I even tried to talk to Adeline, she shut me down entirely. There was no way for me to make any kind of progress like that.
And I had just about given up.
I had come to work so that I could just do something, anything, to get my mind off of the matter. But there was nothing that distracted me. No matter how much I tried.
