Meixiu felt irritated that she couldn't fight with the manager and the waiter. They have awful manners in terms of conversing with other people.
They are what she calls the "kiss-up, kick-down people," where they kiss the feet of those people that are higher than them while kicking down the people that are lower than them.
The two in front of her are showing the most disgusted smirk that she has ever seen in her whole life.
The manager went in front of her before giving her a piece of paper, which she only stared at for a moment.
"Go on and fill up this form; we can hire you as a dishwasher."
The manager said this, making the waiter snicker in his place.
Meixiu scoffs and is about to get the form to tear it when someone beats her to it.
She looked to her side and saw a woman, slightly smaller than her, with a snake-face type.
She couldn't help but squint her eyes, as she felt like she had seen the woman before but couldn't pinpoint where and when.
"Is this how you greet your customers? With a form to apply for a job?"
Meixiu saw Xiaohui and Lijuan walking out of the corner and quickly going in her direction.
The manager saw Lijuan and bowed down, but got shocked when the girl went beside Meixiu.
"She's with me; what are you doing?"
The manager smiles before pointing his fingers at Meixiu.
"Are you sure? I know you are a kind person Ms. Cui."
Lijuan glares at the man before wrapping her arms around Meixiu's left ones, which Xiaohui noticed.
"She IS with me."
"Oh ok."
The manager's face reddens because of embarrassment, and he quickly bows down and leaves.
The waiter could only glare at Meixiu.
How can a beggar make someone respect and even cling to her? Not to mention, it's the young lady from the Cui clan!
A crumpled piece of paper was suddenly thrown at him, making him glare at the person, but he regretted it fast enough.
"Glaring can cause you to get fired."
"I'm sorry."
The waiter's face was filled with a red tint before he bowed down and walked away from the woman who threw the crumpled paper at him.
Meixiu looks at the woman before she goes to her and bows down.
"Thank you."
The woman looks at her and is shocked for a moment, which Lijuan and Xiaohui notice, making the two look at each other in confusion.
"Why are you thanking me? It's natural to save someone."
Meixiu's eyebrows furrowed at the woman's tone of voice and words.
It's like shes heard of it.
But she shrugs because a lot of people could say those words, so she just bows down and smiles at the girl.
"You stand up for me, which is not natural at all, so thank you."
She said it one last time before grabbing Xiaohui's hand as Lijuan guided them to the table.
The woman's eyes never left her fading figure as her mouth tugged into the brightest smile she could produce.
-
"Wu Tao will be hosting a reunion party for us."
"That's great news."
Meixiu said, remembering her time with the man named Wu Tao.
Wu Tao is a great friend of Meixiu. He's been there ever since the girl entered the university and treated Meixiu as a best friend.
At first, he couldn't understand how Xiaohui could walk in one day with a girl following closely behind her until Meixiu told him about the marriage of the two.
Of course, Tao wouldn't believe it, as Xiaohui is considered one of the popular girls, being Lijuan's best friend and because of her beauty.
"But why so sudden?"
Xiaohui asks, not remembering asking the question earlier at the car, to which Lijuan looks at her and shrugs her shoulder.
"I don't know; didn't you receive any email from him?"
"I don't check my email."
"Go on and check."
Lijuan said this and looked at Meixiu before telling her the same thing.
The couple went to grab their phones to look at the email, where they saw Wu Tao's name and the date the email was sent.
"Dear Meixiu,
Hey, I hope you remember me, but this is Wu Tao. I'm inviting you to the opening of my restaurant, which I have been talking about since the day we started talking. It's finally coming true! I hope you'll be able to come with your wife, and we can catch up on things that we weren't able to talk about in the past few years.
Sincerely,
Wu Tao"
Meixiu smiles at the message and looks at Xiaohui, who's talking with Lijuan about the invitation.
"Xiaohui."
She called out, to which the woman replied, looking at her.
"Would you like to go there?"
"Meixiu, you would know my answer."
The taller girl smiles widely as she nods her head, getting a little excited about meeting her friend again after such a long time.
-
Meixiu went out of the house as she was going to throw the garbage, but she furrowed her eyebrows as she saw the familiar car of someone.
After they went out earlier to eat breakfast, Lijuan quickly sent them back to the house, as Meixiu and Xiaohui both have busy schedules.
Xiaohui works for her family company, and Meixiu is busy managing the house.
Lijuan doesn't want to send them away, but she also has things to do.
As Meixiu put the garbage in the trash bin, she dusted herself before going to the vehicle and knocking on the window.
The window rolls down, revealing Suyin, who looks at Meixi with a small smile on her face.
"Ms. Song."
Suyin rolled the window up and went out of the vehicle, bowing down at Meixiu to show respect to the girl.
Meixiu nodded and observed her feet, seeing a bandage wrap around her ankle. The taller woman squats down as Suyin widens her eyes, and her blush visibly gets a little redder as Meixiu continues to touch her ankle.
"Are you feeling better now?"
Meixiu looks up at Suyin and sees the girl looking at her, but Suyin quickly looks away, so Meixiu does not see the blush on her face.
"Yes, thank you for taking me to the hospital, Ms. Song."
"No worries, it's my fault anyway."
Suyin shakes her head. She looks at Meixiu and holds the taller's hand.
"Ms. Song, it was my fault. I should have listened to you."
"Didn't you believe that woman?"
Suyin shakes her head as she looks down at the ground.
"I've known her for a few years now, and I still can't believe she'd be able to do that to me."
Suyin looks up again and meets Meixiu's eyes. Her sad eyes twinkle upon seeing Meixiu.
"I should always trust you."
Meixiu smiled and nodded. She looks at the house before looking back at Suyin.
"What brings you here?"
"Ah..."
Suyin looks down at the ground again, putting her hand on her nape as she looks around, avoiding looking up to see Meixiu.
"I'd like to take you out to eat outside. An apology gift."
Suyin said, finally looking at Meixiu.
The taller girl smiles before patting Suyin's hands, which she has been holding.
"You don't have to. I don't have time today."
"Oh, is that so? Then we can schedule it later on."
"Sounds great."
So sorry for not updating. Got caught up in school and had writer's block. Hope y'all like the chapter though!
