Taste of A Soul

'What makes this soul different? Why does it have a flavor? Why is it…tasty…?' Blake asked himself when he swallowed the gorilla's soul.

And different from any ordinary food that he swallowed in his mouth, the savory taste of the soul lingered on his mouth and even spread onto his body.

Blake couldn't figure out how in the world did the other parts of his body besides his tongue could feel the taste of the soul, but the savory taste that he felt didn't seem to come from his tongue as his body shook for a split second when he swallowed the tasty soul into his stomach.

The tasty feeling that he felt was different from the ones that he got from eating ordinary food and it was certainly a new stimulus for Blake. Fortunately for him though, Blake didn't feel any huge craving to go on a soul eating spree or anything like that after tasting the first-ever soul that had a nice savory taste.

The taste was good, but as he thought before, his sweet and spicy fried pork tasted better. However, that doesn't mean that he didn't want to eat more of those tasty souls. Just like eating a bag of chips, you would never feel satisfied after only eating one single piece, especially when it's tasty and savory in your mouth, you would definitely reach your hand back into the bag to grab more.

And that was the exact feeling that Blake was currently feeling, he wanted to grab another bite, but there was no bag of chips that he could just reach his hand into to get another chip. It felt as if his throat was itching, and there was no way for him to get rid of that itchiness.

But that was it, after clicking his tongue in disappointment as he couldn't get another soul that tasted as good as that for now, Blake returned back to reality to check whether there was anything else that was different after eating the gorilla's soul other than its taste.

After checking out his own body from head to toe and seeing no visible difference with them, Blake went and checked his status page.

When Blake finally saw his status page and noticed the number of souls that he had right now, Blake blinked a couple of times as he wondered whether he was imagining things. But after seeing the number was indeed 5/25 and it didn't change after he shook his head a couple of times, Blake was now sure that it wasn't a fluke that the gorilla monkey had just given him 5 souls.

He didn't know how the soul math works and how one soul orb could give him 5 souls, but if he were to guess it was probably because the gorilla's soul had the equivalent strength of 5 ordinary souls or something else that he didn't know. And he certainly wouldn't complain about it since it would only help him to level up faster.

And seeing his next quest, which was to level up 10 more times and evolve for the first time, getting more souls from just 1 soul was definitely a good thing.

'Maybe I should hunt for stronger demonic beasts. Not only did they give me more souls, but their souls also tasted good…' Blake thought while staring off at the distant unexplored places in the forest.

'It used to take me a long time to travel a vast distance, but if Robus were to take me on his back again, then traveling two or even three times the usual distance that I was able to go to would be possible with the same amount of time. Maybe I should start doing that tomorrow…'

'But before that…'

Now that Blake had an earth affinity, of course, he would want to learn the demonic runes to use the earth elemental spells. So far, he only learned about the darkness element demonic runes and the other basic runes that were used to create a demonic spell with Vera.

Although Vera said that she would also tell him about other runes from the other elements since Blake could also use them with another demon's blood and rune formations, Vera told him to get used to the darkness elements first and create rune formations from all the things that he had learned. And of course, as a good student that wanted to impress his beautiful teacher, Blake complied and did things just as she told him to and created the semi-automatic cutter and garden watering system.

He wanted to tell Vera that he wanted to start learning the other runes, but seeing that she was busy herself with creating a new original spell for her own, Blake prevented himself from doing so and instead decided to also create his own original spell.

But now that he had created his own rune formations, a new original spell, and he had also got a new affinity, of course, Blake wouldn't waste his time and he would ask Vera for new materials that he could study with, particularly about the earth elements.

Blake wanted to go home right away and began learning the runes for the earth elemental spells, but seeing the humongous gorilla that certainly couldn't be ignored, Blake opened up his mouth and spoke,

"Robus, let's meet again sometime later. I still have some things I wanted to do, But after that, we could go around the forest together and defeat the strong creatures to eat their souls!"

"Rrr?" (What should I do for now? Do you want me to go with you?)

"No, you don't have to. You can just do anything you usually do until I come back here again."

"r." (okay.)

Right after hearing Robus' answer, Blake quickly turned around and ran back to Vera's home as he was getting really excited about learning the new elemental spells from the new affinity that he had gotten.
