From Kanzaki's calculations, he had only a week left of groceries until he ran out of money. He would have already said he was out of money if not for the fact Selena helped him out with the apartment he was in. If he had to pay for rent he would have to get a job within the next 2 days or he would have nothing left.
'I guess I enjoyed myself too much.' Kanzaki thought to himself with a smile but albeit it was a sad smile. He really didn't want to change what he was doing as a job so he began formulating a plan on how to get money from it.
As he was doing that he saw he had a text message. Kanzaki thought it might have been from Selena since he texted her earlier in the day which ended up being true with her sending him a message telling him not to worry about anything she did for him and that it was her pleasure.
However, he didn't have a moment to appreciate that message since he saw the text from his mom. She told him to call her whenever he had the chance but also didn't forget to ask him if he had a job yet. When he read the last line it made him frown slightly.
Kanzaki had a rough relationship with his family. He loved both his mother and father dearly but the way that they treated situations such as jobs and life didn't really match with his own. Due to this, a slight rift had been created between them causing some not-so-great moments between them.
Kanzaki still loved and respected his parents enough to call them so he clicked the call button and the phone began ringing as Kanzaki called his mother. After Kanzaki waited for a few seconds he heard the person on the other end of the line pick up, "Hello?" A woman's voice sounded on the other line.
When Kanzaki heard this he hesitated for a moment before he decided to continue, "Hey mom it's Kanzaki." Kanzaki said sighing inwardly knowing that this conversation probably wasn't going to go well at all.
"Oh, I see. It's about time you called back. I texted you last night for goodness sake. It has been over 24 hours what have you been doing?" Kanzaki's mother asked him already audibly getting annoyed.
"Sorry about that I was doing some hardcore drugs. Took some time to get that good stuff from Billy down the street." Kanzaki said with a serious voice causing the other person on the phone to go silent for a moment.
"Are you serious?" Kanzaki's mom asked suddenly with venom pouring with her every word. It was obvious she was not ok with what he just said but Kanzaki only smiled since he finally had a chance to lighten the mood.
"Of course not. You know I don't do drugs. I've been working a lot recently." Kanzaki said laughing off what he said before. When Kanzaki said this he could feel the tension on the other line dissipate as if it were never there.
"Don't scare me like that! I thought you were actually doing drugs. If you're working then that's good news. It seems you're finally putting that degree to use." Kanzaki's mom said on the other line sounding happy for the first time in a long time.
She was happy on most occasions but except when it involved Kanzaki this had been the first time in multiple years that he had heard her happy about his situation but he was about to crash her party. The hopes and understanding she had made about his situation were completely wrong.
"Actually the job I have doesn't use my degree." Kanzaki admitted suddenly albeit he tried to say it as quietly as possible so it might slip past her ears but of course, it didn't.
"What do you mean by that? Explain it to me now." Kanzaki's mom said in a stern voice that wouldn't take no for an answer. Kanzaki knew that if he hung up on her and refused to talk about it she would just show up at his door within a few hours asking for him to answer.
"Well, I started a new job that I actually like. I've begun live streaming online and have actually been able to grow somewhat of a following. Within time I even think it's possible to make more doing that than anything with my degree." Kanzaki said not holding back the love and excitement he had for streaming. Despite Kanzaki talking about streaming multiple times he couldn't help but feel himself get excited every time he mentioned it, he truly loved it.
The other person on the phone went silent for a moment once more making sweat run down Kanzaki's back wondering what her reaction was going to be. He was hoping it was a good reaction and that she accepted what he was doing but that never happened, "WHAT DO YOU MEAN STREAMING?! WASTING YOUR LIFE AND TIME WITH THOSE GAMES?! I SHOULD GO OVER THERE MYSELF AND DESTROY THAT COMPUTER OF YOURS! HOW ARE YOU SUPPOSED TO RAISE A FAMILY WITH SOMETHING LIKE THAT? I BETTER HEAR OF YOU GETTING A JOB WITHIN THE NEXT WEEK OR I WILL BE THERE MYSELF!" Kanzaki's mom shouted angrily before hanging up the phone.
Kanzaki had expected something like this but it didn't mean that it didn't hurt. He sat there stunned for a few moments with his phone still by his ear. It wasn't until over 5 minutes passed that Kanzaki finally moved again. He wiped the welling tears in his eyes and put on a determined face.
He had no intention of following what she said because his life wasn't hers to control. At this point, he was just even more determined and excited to make the most of his situation but the first thing he needed to do was to find a way to make money.
