Hinata Shoyo woke up from his dream with a start. He sat up on the bed and held is head in his hands. It was a cluster-fuck inside his head, it was swarming with memories that weren't his but for some reason felt like it couldn't have been any more real. They were memories of a life he hasn't lived yet but felt like he experienced it all the same, albeit on a smaller scale. It was almost like he had his entire future play out in front of him.
He experienced all the bits of emotions and feelings it brought along with it as well. He experienced the excitement, pain, frendship, glory, heartbreak, disappointment, and most of all.. the Passion. A passion for volleyball unlike anything he had ever felt before.. not even when he first stopped in front of a Tv store and watched 'The Little Giant' soar into the air and fight on equal terms against opponents bigger than him and come out on top regardless. The event that woke something in him and got him into volleyball in the first place.
But that passion hadn't turned into drive yet. For the Shoyo in his memories.. that passion had turned into drive when he learned what defeat truly meant. When a person who seemingly had everything looked down at him and asked him what he did for the last 3 years.. when he'd done the best he could by himself and had given it his all. It was what had kick started his hunger and drive. But for him?
For him that event hadn't happened yet and even if it happened now.. it wouldn't matter much. Because this time, the scale was much bigger. Instead of defeat.. his drive this time was Greed. He wanted everything the future Shoyo had. After getting a taste of what his future could look like.. the true defeat would be if he wasn't able to achieve that. He couldn't settle for anything less than what he had in his memories.. on the contrary.. he wanted more than that, much more.
He decided to freshen up first and then sat on his bed calmly to think over everything in his memories. This whole thing was weird. It shouldn't be possible but he just instinctively knew that everything was real. He couldn't explain it but he knew he could trust his memories. The thing he was most excited about however was his ability to speak two new languages. Portuguese and English. He sucked in english until yesterday but now he was pretty confident about it. That and his studies. After all.. he had the memories of an adult Shoyo. And middle school stuff was pretty basic. He could now dedicate most of his time to volleyball and still do well in school.
If his friends knew that he went to sleep yesterday and woke up today after a particularly long sleep with the ability to speak two new languages and a solid career plan set out for him.. they would die of jealousy. He smirked thinking about their faces.
He picked up the volleyball next to his bed and started spinning it in his hands. He remembered that he had a match tomorrow with the team from Kitagawa Daiichi. He had been waiting for this match with so much anticipation. He had even convinced his friends, who had no idea about volleyball, to help him out and somehow assembled a motley crew. He cringed when he remembered how badly they were crushed in his memories. He doubted the results would be any different this time but he found himself not minding it that much now.
Yes, defeat always sucked but now he had so much more to look forward to. His goal was so much bigger now and a match in junior high was inconsequential in the grand scheme of things. That being said.. it did not mean he wouldn't give it his all in the match till the last point. He was excited to meet Kageyama. In his memories, Kagemaya wasn't just his partner and biggest rival, but also a constant motivation to improve himself. He pushed him like no other. And now, he too wanted to have a similar relationship with Kageyama.
He recalled all the friends he had made in his memories.. all the teammates he had played with and even all the rivals he'd made. Especially his teammates and friends from Karasuno. They were all real friends and their bond stayed strong even after school. These were the type of friends he had always wanted to make and to know that a future version of him succeeded made him tear up.
He wanted to meet all of them and make friends with them all over again. This time not just in memories.. but in real life. He had so many things he wanted to do and experience for his own now.. he could barely contain his excitement.
He wouldn't live his life strictly by his memories. He would do things differently and he wasn't afraid that he'll change something because now that he had these memories.. things were bound to change anyways and he'd make sure to change them for the better. He'd keep an open mind take things for what they are and do things how he wants to. He would use the future memory as a blueprint reference and be the architect himself. He had seen a vision today.. and now he'd turn it into reality and it would be even better than it already was.
