[New World Arc] Part 11: The Reaper's Arrival

Gradually I regained consciousness. My vision was still a little blurry and what I could make out of the place was that it was very bright.

???: "Don't try too hard."

Yato: "Huh?" - I grumbled as my vision began to adjust to the light. I looked like I was in the infirmary. When looking around I saw the nurse who was talking to me.

Nurse: "How are you feeling?"

Yato: "A little sleepy. By the way, how did I get here?"

Nurse: "Two students found you passed out at the school gates and brought you here. I asked them not to worry and sent them away."

Yato: "I see. Thank you."

Nurse: "No need to thank me. I did some tests while you were sleeping, but it looks like what happened was that your blood pressure went down, which caused you to faint. Have you been eating properly?"

Yato: "Actually, I've been eating very little lately."

Nurse: "Do you feel better about leaving alone or do you have someone responsible for you that I can contact?"

Yato: "I live alone. But that's okay. I'm already feeling better."

The nurse wanted to do some more tests and insisted that I call someone, but I just declined the offer and said that if anything happened I would call the school to let them know.

It didn't take me long to get home as I took a bus. Everything seemed normal, apart from the fact that the red cat was no longer home. I didn't worry too much about it because I noticed that the wedding ring had popped up on my finger again.

# Next Day | April 3 - Karakura High School, Gakuenchou - 07:00 a.m. #

I was normally attending classes while trying to ignore what some people were saying.

Apparently the news of my passing out started generating other rumors at school.

I entered the classroom and saw that not only the students but also the teacher were already there. Before I could sit down I was stopped by Tatsuki and Orihime.

Orihime: "Good morning, Yasakani-san. Are you feeling better?" - Although she spoke in a cheerful way like every day, there was a little concern in her voice.

Yato: "Yes. Thanks for asking."

Tatsuki: "We got scared when we saw you lying in front of the gate. I thought you had a fight with someone but I didn't see any injuries so we took you to the infirmary."

Yato: "So you were the ones who took me to the infirmary?"

Tatsuki: "Yes. You have to be more careful with your health."

Orihime: "Is it because he's not eating well? If that's the case I was preparing a new recipe for-"

Before she could finish, the teacher ordered everyone to be quiet so she could start classes. All I did was mentally thank her as I didn't want to know what Inoue's recipe would be.

Misato: "Before we start, how are you feeling, Yasakani?"

Yato: "I'm fine, sensei"

Misato: "I know you must miss your fiancée a lot but you need to take care of yourself. Don't go swooning around thinking about her."

The teacher's comment generated several laughs from the students and even some emotional looks from some girls due to my apparent "devotion" to my supposed wife."

And all this happened because I used my Fullbring again…

Yato: 'I need to learn to control my Fullbring soon…'

# Time-skip | May 18 - Karakura Town, Minamikawase - 02:00 a.m. #

I couldn't sleep and I was watching TV until late. There was a Don Kanonji program on but not even this show distracted me enough. All I thought about was the things that had happened since I came into this world.

Every day was always the same. I would go to school, talk to Ichigo and his friends during the break and at the end of classes I would go straight home. Sometimes on weekends, Keigo and Mizuiro would invite everyone to go out and have fun with friends. There was one day when we all went to a park and I noticed that some souls were wandering there. Ichigo probably saw them and ignored them, but what caught my attention the most was that Tatsuki would sometimes look in the same direction but she would always change the subject when Orihime asked what she was looking at.

Whenever I had time, I tried to train my skills by remembering how the Fullbringers did in the anime, but as I still had no idea how my spiritual energy worked, even with all that time I didn't have much results. The most I've managed so far is to move the water a little inside a cup.

Over time I realized that the trigger that made my Fullbring use his abilities was when I really wanted to change something that was somehow bothering me. Although my training didn't make much progress, it served to decrease the number of times the red cat changed something.

Yato: 'Strange…I have a feeling that I'm forgetting something…'

# Minutes later #

Somewhere in Karakura Town, a kind of portal in the shape of "Shoji" opens in the city's skies. After a single black butterfly passed by and the portal closed, a person suddenly appeared standing on a pole while her figure was obscured by the moon's light.
